Job Description

As the Principal of a New Education System (NES) School, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education by leading a team of educators and driving academic excellence. This role combines visionary leadership, instructional expertise, and effective management skills to create an innovative learning environment that meets the needs of students in the 21st century. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school's operations, fostering a positive culture, and ensuring the implementation of the New Education System's principles.

Responsibilities

  3. Increase attendance
  4. Increase graduation rates
  5. Strengthen instructional opportunities
  6. Provide a safe learning environment
  7. Provide student services
  8. Comply with federal, state, and local laws and Board policies and procedures and other school district initiatives.
  9. Communicates, collaborates, and builds strong relationships with key stakeholders including:
  10. Teachers and staff
  11. Students and parents
  12. Community and business partners
  13. Other members of the school and district community,
  14. Selects and mentors a high quality school staff.
  15. Develops and maintains quality data, a balanced budget, and operational systems control closely tied to instructional priorities.

Job Qualifications

EDUCATION

Master's degree requirement may be waived. Valid Texas Principal certification.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Three years of exemplary teaching experience, Additional leadership experience on the campus or otherwise is essential.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing. - Accomplishes the majority of work objectives through the management of direct reports. Provides day-to-day directions for staff; may become directly involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. Responsible for assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring application of policies and procedures. Receives assignments in the form of objectives, with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides input for hiring, performance and budget.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing directions on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

Participates in a group plan and/or budget development.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Decisions have a major impact to multiple divisions or organization and may impact on the general direction of HISD. Errors may cause continuous adverse influence on the future operations of the organization, in matters involving important customer commitments, organizational liability, and other matters which may appreciably affect future costs.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Oversee and direct - serves as one of the organization's senior level spokespersons in area of expertise, defines and champions change initiatives, organizational strategies, services, policies, and practices. Interactions are typically with Top Management, the Board, and community and business leaders.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer's decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitors customer service standards.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.

  • School Administrator certification
  • Three years of exemplary teaching experience
  • Additional leadership experience on campus or otherwise
