Product Design at Zalando is a community of 200+ product designers, content designers, and user researchers. 
The User Research team is a group of mixed-methods researchers who work on high priority initiatives for the eCommerce Platform—informing problem and opportunity definition together with senior stakeholders in Product Management and Design. Our team mission is to apply craft, creativity and continuous learning to uncover and actively share customer knowledge & insights that drive user-centred decision making. We propose and drive insights frameworks that provide a foundation for all product development activities across the eCommerce platform experience. Together with a Research Ops specialist, we enable the wider community to conduct effective user research themselves.

WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND DOING)

  • You will work closely with the team lead and senior stakeholders to shape the team’s research agenda and frameworks, ensuring alignment with Zalando’s strategic priorities and deep understanding of customers across 23 markets.

  • You will lead high-impact research projects, delivering actionable insights that enable customer-centric decision-making and influence strategic direction.

  • You will creatively communicate research outcomes, maximising their reach across the business, and integrating qualitative and quantitative data to offer a complete view of the customer.

  • You will collaborate with Research & Design Operations to empower designers and product managers to conduct effective research, embedding it throughout the product development process. You will share your expertise with your team and the wider design community, raising the standard of research quality and embedding a culture of continuous learning.

  • As a thought leader, you will contribute to Zalando’s Product Design community and the broader design industry by sharing best practices, mentoring, and driving inspiring, customer-centric discussions.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR 

  • Experience: You are an experienced mixed-methods research professional with a rich portfolio of projects that combine qualitative & quantitative methodologies and approaches, addressing insights needs across the entire product development process. 

  • Collaboration: You have a history of forging strong relationships with principal designers, product managers and other stakeholders. You can provide concrete examples of how you’ve successfully navigated these dynamics to align mixed-methods research with business needs, making research an integral part of strategic decision-making.

  • Communication: Your exceptional storytelling skills make customer insights not just heard, but felt. You deliver insights in a way that resonates with both data-driven and creative stakeholders, and you excel at facilitating workshops and discussions that champion the customer and steer teams towards action.

  • Strategy & Direction: You are adept at aligning research initiatives with Zalando’s overarching strategic goals, ensuring that every research effort is driven by a clear business impact. You pragmatically invest the team’s resources in high-priority projects to deliver insights that drive Zalando’s customer-centric strategy forward.
