A Day in The Life Of:

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling

  • Design the arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout

  • Design sequences of operations and specify procedures for the fabrication of tools, equipment, and other functions affecting product performance

  • Adapt machine or equipment designs to factory and production conditions

  • Manage 3rd party machine builders and manufacturing equipment suppliers, including quoting, tracking deliverables and progress through factory acceptance and site acceptance testing.

  • Incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan, as needed

  • Inspect the performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify efficiency

  • Investigate problems and deficiencies, and initiate corrective actions to ensure product quality

  • Develop manufacturing processes applicable to statistical process control and, where appropriate, develop those techniques

  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques

  • Ensure processes and procedures are compliant with applicable regulations

Key Skills & Experience

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work with a high degree of ambiguity and need for discovery

  • History of succeeding in a fast-paced, highly dynamic new product development environment

Nice to have

  • Experience implementing software releases into manufacturing, particularly related to test automation

  • Knowledge of capital equipment production in a low-volume, high-complexity environment

  • Experience with production software release and design transfer of software into a manufacturing setting

  • Knowledge of capital equipment production with experience in motors, sensors, and electro-mechanical assemblies

  • DMAIC and Lean Manufacturing experience, including Black Belt certification

The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems, or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies, from design through implementation, while adhering to policies and applying specialized knowledge and skills.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
