Our Why
Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.
About the Role (your why)
We know payroll — we’ve been accurately and compliantly processing it for over 50 years — and now we’re modernising it with our next-generation SaaS Payroll Product, Datapay.
We’re looking for a Principal Integration Engineer to lead the software development of the API/integration stream for Datapay. As a technical leader, you will play a pivotal role in the way our services connect internally and how our systems integrate with external partners. This is a hands-on role covering all phases of integration development — from architecture and technical design through to implementation and customer engagement.
You’ll collaborate with Product and Design teams, Tech Leads/Architects, and other Development teams to maximise value delivery in our Agile environment. You will shape design patterns, set coding standards, mentor engineers, and ensure the end-to-end quality of our payroll platform.
What you’ll do
As a Principal Integration Engineer you will be focused on:
- Designing and implementing secure, performant integration patterns.
- Leading integration development across internal services and partner solutions.
- Defining API architecture and standards that drive a seamless, API-driven business.
- Mentoring developers in technical skills, coding standards, and Agile practices.
- Working closely with Product teams to deliver quality solutions on time.
- Planning, controlling, and reporting on integration progress and performance.
- Capturing and sharing knowledge as part of continuous improvement.
- Ensuring compliance with design, security, and performance requirements.
We are a pretty agile company, and are keen to respond to customer, technology, and internal stakeholders’ changing requirements — this can mean we evolve in our roles to meet those needs.
What you’ll bring
Required experience:
- Extensive experience in integration platforms, patterns, and architecture.
- Deep knowledge of information security principles and data integrity measures.
- Expertise in integration performance optimisation (caching, load balancing, monitoring).
- Skilled in integrating with partner applications across multiple domains.
- Strong capability in C#/.NET and .NET Core.
- Experience defining integration patterns for APIs, messaging, and file transfers.
- Experience implementing secure API management solutions on cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of enterprise-scale composable and configurable integration service platforms.
- Leadership experience influencing development teams and driving technical direction.
- Strong collaborative skills for working across multi-disciplinary product and tech teams.
- Ability to balance technical and business objectives for high-value delivery.
- Experience with Agile delivery methodologies in SaaS product environments.
