The Data Center Engineer serves as a senior technical expert responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise data center, storage, virtualization, backup, and disaster recovery platforms. The role provides technical leadership for infrastructure strategy, technology modernization initiatives, and platform optimization efforts that support business-critical operations across Princess Cruises' global shoreside and shipboard environments. The position serves as a trusted advisor to technology leadership, establishes infrastructure standards and best practices, and leads complex cross-functional initiatives that improve infrastructure resilience, scalability, security, and operational effectiveness..

Responsibilities: 

Data Center Infrastructure Management

  • Design, deploy, maintain, and optimize enterprise data center infrastructure.

  • Manage physical and virtual server environments to ensure high availability and performance.

  • Support hardware lifecycle management, including installation, upgrades, maintenance, and decommissioning.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure issues affecting data center operations.

Storage Administration

  • Administer enterprise storage platforms, including SAN, NAS, and object storage solutions.

  • Configure storage provisioning, replication, snapshots, thin provisioning, and data tiering.

  • Monitor storage utilization and performance, providing capacity planning recommendations.

  • Implement and maintain storage security and data protection controls.

Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Recovery

  • Manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions.

  • Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.

  • Ensure recovery objectives (RPO/RTO) are achieved and documented.

  • Perform periodic backup validation and disaster recovery testing.

Virtualization and Cloud Integration

  • Support virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Nutanix.

  • Lead the design and integration of hybrid infrastructure solutions spanning on-premises and cloud-based environments.

  • Participate in infrastructure modernization and cloud migration initiatives.

Performance and Capacity Management

  • Establish capacity management strategies, define infrastructure roadmaps, and provide strategic recommendations regarding future compute, storage, and data center investments.

  • Analyze trends and forecast future storage and compute requirements.

  • Recommend improvements to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.

Security and Compliance

  • Implement security best practices for storage and infrastructure environments.

  • Define and implement infrastructure controls and technical standards supporting enterprise security, compliance, resiliency, and governance objectives.

Documentation and Support

  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, diagrams, configurations, and operating procedures.

  • Provide technical support and participate in on-call rotations as required.

  • Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues.

  • Scope: The Data Center and Storage Engineer is a critical member of the Infrastructure Platforms organization responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of enterprise data center, storage, backup, and virtualization environments. The role supports business-critical systems and services across both shore-side and fleet operations, ensuring reliable and secure access to applications and data. Responsibilities span infrastructure lifecycle management, operational support, disaster recovery preparedness, and capacity planning. Serves as the organization's subject matter expert for enterprise data center, storage, virtualization, and backup technologies. Responsible for evaluating emerging technologies, recommending infrastructure strategies, establishing technical standards, and driving platform modernization initiatives supporting global business operations. Regularly influences infrastructure direction, technology selection decisions, and long-term capacity planning efforts.

  • Problem Solving: The role addresses highly complex infrastructure challenges involving multiple integrated technology domains including storage, virtualization, cloud, networking, backup, cybersecurity, and enterprise applications. The position interprets ambiguous business and technical requirements, develops innovative solutions where limited precedent exists, and balances operational, financial, risk, and security considerations. The engineer evaluates emerging technologies, develops architecture recommendations, and provides expert guidance on infrastructure investments and modernization strategies.

  • Impact: The Data Center and Storage Engineer has a significant impact on the availability, reliability, security, and performance of enterprise technology services. Decisions and recommendations made by this role directly influence infrastructure architecture, technology standards, platform selection, disaster recovery readiness, cybersecurity posture, operational resilience, and infrastructure investment decisions. The role has broad impact across multiple business functions and operational environments by enabling reliable, scalable, and secure technology services that support strategic business objectives.

  • Leadership: Provides technical leadership across Infrastructure Engineering initiatives and serves as the escalation point for the organization's most complex infrastructure issues. Leads enterprise infrastructure projects, drives adoption of technical standards and best practices, mentors engineers across multiple technology disciplines, and influences technical decision-making among leadership, vendors, and stakeholders.

Essential Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience managing enterprise data center and storage environments.

  • Strong knowledge of SAN, NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and storage networking technologies.

  • Experience with enterprise storage platforms such as Dell EMC, NetApp, Pure Storage, or HPE.

  • Experience with backup and recovery solutions such as Veeam, Commvault, or Rubrik.

  • Hands-on experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or Nutanix virtualization technologies.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience supporting Windows Server and Linux operating systems.

 

Travel:  Less than 25% non-shipboard travel likely                                          

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Physical Demands: Work beyond normal business hours or on weekends may be required occasionally to support business needs, projects, or operations.

 

 

This position is classified as “Hybrid.”  As a Hybrid role, it requires employees to work in-office Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays.
