Principal Hydrogeologist

Our Specialist Groundwater team is one of the most well-established and premier units in SLR APACs broad environmental consulting offering. Due to continued growth and a strong base of existing projects/confirmed pipeline, we are seeking a Principal Hydrogeologist to step into this pivotal role in delivering and shaping major groundwater projects across the region.

This opportunity has a strong focus on project stewardship and will suit a Principal Groundwater specialist who has excellent client management skills, both internally and externally. You will lead technical delivery, leveraging your robust project management capability and scientific communication skills to deliver exciting technical projects for a wide range of clients.

Our 60+ person Hydrology and Hydrogeology (H&H) Practice Area is one of the largest in SLR Australia and includes over 35 Hydrogeologists. The heart of our national Hydrogeology team is located in our Brisbane CBD office, with over 200 consulting specialists across multiple environmental fields, with the added perk of Story bridge and river views. We are open to applications from other geographies where we have a Hydrogeology presence, including North Sydney, Melbourne & Adelaide.

We work in a collaborative environment across our H&H teams in Brisbane, Townsville, Newcastle, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and closely with other SLR environmental specialists across our 23 offices.

Responsibilities

In addition to joining a high performing team and contributing to our collaborative culture, this role will see you:

  • Engage in High level client, enhancing relationships with our key clients and maintaining and growing SLRs brand in the region.
  • Manage large technical projects, particularly within the resource sector, balancing stakeholder requirements between client, regulator and other involved parties.
  • Apply your thorough understanding of groundwater related legislation and guidelines to resources, development and infrastructure projects across the state.
  • Apply your best-practice groundwater science skills to solve complex groundwater management problems.
  • Prepare large (+$100k) bids for technical work.
  • Oversee and mentor junior staff through technical assessment and preparation of quality reports.
  • Contribute to winning work by identifying and converting opportunities and drawing on your client relationships.
  • Provide advice and assistance to internal and external clients, team members and Project Manager's on projects regarding best principles and practices.

Experience

Our ideal candidate will have 12+ years’ industry experience, including experience within a consultancy group, as well as:

  • Appropriate Engineering or Science tertiary qualification and relevant groundwater industry experience. With post graduate qualifications ideal.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large multidisciplinary projects.
  • Working knowledge of relevant National and Queensland groundwater legislation and policies, standards and guidelines (or local to the geography)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and technical report writing.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and successfully mentoring junior staff and managing upwards.
  • A strong track record in building, nurturing and maintaining ongoing client relationships.
  • Australia Citizenship or full time work rights in Australia.
