Position Overview

The FinOps Engineer oversees cloud economics, financial governance, and operational efficiency within an Azure-based cloud development environment.  This role bridges the gap between finance and engineering, ensuring our Microsoft Azure footprint remains lean, scalable, and optimized.

As the primary owner of the cloud governance strategy, the FinOps Engineer serves as a strategic advisor to development teams by leveraging Kion to design precise costing models, build automated budget enforcements, and provide actionable analytics in order to instill a culture of fiscal responsibility and cost-conscious engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Governance & Platform Management
    • Serve as the primary administrator and strategist for selecting and leveraging the financial management platform, utilizing its automated workflow engine to manage organizational units, enforce cloud guardrails, and streamline subscription provisioning
    • Configure and manage financial enforcements to trigger alerts, pause spending, or apply automated remediations when thresholds are breached
    • Ensure strict cloud tagging compliance across Azure resources by writing and implementing automated policy guardrails via the platform
  • Azure Spend Optimization & Analysis
    • Analyze complex Microsoft Azure billing structures, enterprise agreements, and usage patterns to identify anomalies, idle resources, and optimization targets
    • Translate raw cloud data into high-fidelity costing models and executive-ready dashboards reflecting accurate unit economics
QualificationsProfessional Experience
  • U.S. citizen with active TS clearance and SCI eligibility
  • FinOps domain expertise: 3+ years of experience in cloud financial management
  • Financial management platform: Hands-on experience using a professional financial management platform for multi-account governance, financial tracking, or automated compliance
  • Azure experience: Technical understanding of Azure cost management and billing
Technical Delivery
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with various stakeholders (customers, program managers, product managers, and senior leadership)
  • Experience using evaluative technologies to inform senior-leader decisions
Product Ownership
  • Experience translating customer requirements into actionable user stories/features
  • Experience breaking down large features into demonstrable and valuable milestones
  • Experience prioritizing and delegating tasks for at least a team of 5 members
Preferred Qualifications
  • U.S. citizen with active TS clearance and counterintelligence or fullscope polygraph
  • FinOps domain expertise: 6+ years of experience in cloud financial management
Location and Clearance

This is a hybrid position with an expected 3-4 days onsite. Clarity Innovations strives to set consistent expectations and ensure a flexible and healthy work-life balance, but due to the position's nature and emergent customer needs, some weeks may exceed 3-4 days and others may require no onsite work.  It will require a counterintelligence polygraph upon hiring if not already attained.


Salary Range: $123,000 - $337,000

Skills Required
