- Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer.
- The Technology for the Chief Operating Office (TCOO) organization provides technology services for the Chief Operating Office. This includes operations, control executives, strategic execution, business continuity and resiliency, data solutions and services, regulatory relations, customer experience, enterprise shared services, supply chain management, and the corporate properties group.
- TCOO provides technology solutions and manages application portfolios for these groups to support modernization and optimization. Within TCOO we are seeking a Principal Engineer to join the Enterprise Risk Programs Office & Control Technology (ERPOCT) team. The ERPOCT team supports Control Management, Global Privacy, Accessibility & Accommodation Risk, Workplace Services under the Chief Administrative Office.
- Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
- Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
- Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
- Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
- Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Platform Engineering & Architecture
- Design and implement real-time and batch data architecture on GCP.
- Develop scalable data pipelines and orchestration frameworks for AI/ML, BI, and Generative AI use cases.
- Implement event-driven architectures leveraging Pub/Sub, Dataflow, BigQuery, and Cloud Composer.
- Build ingestion frameworks for structured/unstructured data using Apache Beam, Dataflow templates, and GCS.
- Enable semantic layers and knowledge graphs for context-aware dataflows supporting advanced AI systems.
- Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to ensure readiness for LLM fine-tuning and evaluation.
- Implement data observability, lineage, and governance using Dataplex, Data Catalog, and Looker.
- Chair the ADS Architecture Forum to align 16 migration efforts across COO verticals.
- Drive collaboration among architects to share patterns, reusable components, and best practices.
- Identify and resolve technical blockers through cross-team problem-solving.
- Provide executive visibility into progress, risks, and resource needs.
- Promote proven solutions for enterprise-wide adoption and accelerate time-to-production.
- 7+ years of technology strategic leadership experience.
- 4+ years of management or leadership experience.
- 7+ years in data engineering and cloud-based data architecture at scale.
- 7+ years defining and executing data strategy for Data Lakes and Warehouses.
- 3+ years leading AI/ML and Generative AI initiatives.
- 5+ years delivering real-time data platforms using GCP services (Pub/Sub, Dataflow, BigQuery, Cloud Composer).
- 5+ years with data mesh architectures, query federation tools (Starburst, Trino), and decentralized governance.
- 7+ years with data contracts, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
- 4+ years building high-performing data engineering teams and fostering innovation.
- Expertise in data modeling, partitioning, and optimization for AI/ML and BI workloads.
- Strong knowledge of event-driven architectures and real-time analytics use cases.
- Hands-on experience with GCP stack: BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, GCS.
- Familiarity with BI & ML tools: Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Vertex AI Feature Store, BigQuery ML.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
- Experience in large financial services organizations (100k+ employees).
- Deep experience in DevSecOps best practices and modern CI/CD toolchains (Harness, GitActions).
- Strong executive presence, facilitation skills, and strategic thinking.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven track record of leading teams in high-pressure environments.
- Experience with Agile transformations and technology roadmaps.
- Familiar with Java, Big Data, or Open Architecture stack.
- Experience managing onshore and offshore teams.
