We’re hiring a Principal Engineer position on MLB’s Identity Platforms Services team, specializing in Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM). Launched in 2001 as the tech arm of Major League Baseball, MLBAM is renowned for creating experiences that baseball fans love - and we're just getting started!

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the authentication and authorization landscape for MLB’s digital platforms used by millions of fans globally. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional, results-oriented teams to design, implement, and optimize CIAM solutions that enhance security, scalability, and user experience across our websites, native iOS and Android applications, connected devices and partner integrations.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

  • 10+ years of industry experience with a focus on identity management, authentication, and authorization systems

  • Expertise in designing and implementing CIAM solutions for web and mobile applications, including Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and OAuth protocols

  • History of mature, egoless engineering and contributing to a positive, psychologically safe environment

  • Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot framework

  • Familiarity with iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) development

  • Experience with front-end web development

  • Experience with at least one Cloud platform (Google Cloud/AWS/Azure)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in CIAM or related areas

  • Hands-on experience with vendors such as Okta, Auth0 or similar platforms

  • Experience with Google Cloud

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Lead the development and implementation of identity projects, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and business requirements

  • Architect, maintain, and optimize libraries and identity-focused SDKs for our various platforms

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance CIAM systems' performance, reliability, and security posture

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to software engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning

Collaboration:

  • Participate in an agile environment

  • Participate in the full software development life cycle (requirements gathering, designing, building, testing and maintenance)

  • Proactively seek constructive criticism of your own work and offer constructive feedback to others in a way that raises people up and builds relationships

  • Participate in and lead triage efforts during production incidents

Technology Leadership:

  • Lead and take ownership of critical features and your own initiatives

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and industry standards related to identity management and security

  • Influence the innovation of products used by millions of users worldwide

  • Mentor and coach engineers in your team and across the organization to build a strong engineering-focused culture

  • Work with peers throughout the engineering organization to lead and influence strategic technology initiatives

  • Influence the way that baseball is consumed by millions of users worldwide

Per the NYC pay transparency law, the hiring range for this position is $185,000 - $215,000.

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision. In addition to your salary, MLB believes in providing a competitive compensation and benefits package for its employees.
