The Impact You Will Make
Grubhub is looking for a principal backend engineer that can bring ingenuity and homogeneity to our backend service infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to service mesh development, edge traffic shaping and throttling, distribution configuration evolution and providing frameworks/tools for organization wide use. You will be working with various teams across disciplines (backend, frontend, data platforms) and software engineering leaders to solutionize a scalable, reliable and secure service platform.
- Own and oversee large scale technical implementation for the service platform, of which all backend infrastructure @ Grubhub is built up from.
- Pivot between the daily tasks of system design and programming to architecting a strategic vision for how our team can optimize Grubhub's backend engineering experience, while providing resiliency and scalability support for the organization.
- Collaborate to implement best practices and methodologies with regards to technology choices and changes across the organization
- Contribute to GrubHub's backend technology roadmap to help identify areas we can improve the business
- Manage and mentor the team to ensure growth of junior peers
What You Bring to the Table
- Demonstrated ability to write clean and performant code in Java or a similar language.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement distributed system architectures with high availability.
- Experience providing enterprise level solutions with AWS, Kafka, Envoy, Cassandra, ElasticSearch, and similar technologies
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong mentorship and leadership skills with demonstrated experience collaborating with team members on delivering large scale software projects.
New York Salary Range: $241,500 - $314,000
The Base Pay component of our Total Rewards package is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: job responsibilities, location, experience and, education/certifications. In addition to the pay component, this role may be eligible for equity and benefits as part of the Total Rewards package. The Total Rewards package will be determined at the time a contingent offer is made.
