Position Purpose:
Seeking world-class talent to join the world’s leading distributor of automotive and industrial replacement parts and value-added services operating 5,500+ locations and servicing more than 20,000 locations in the U.S and Canada. Working with a highly talented team, you'll play a key role to build and run one of the world’s largest automotive and industrial replacement parts operations.
This is an engineering leadership role with responsibility for modernization in the Order Management space and enabling the transformation to Cloud, along with partnering with the Common Services teams.
This individual must be a technologist & engineer at heart and be comfortable in enabling new technology and being hands on with the execution of the strategy. We will be looking for this candidate to help select appropriate technologies and frameworks to build a scalable and efficient Order Management System, design and implement data flow & integration strategies to facilitate real-time information exchange. She/he must exhibit a deep understanding of modern technology stack and agile delivery models, demonstrated focus on customer experience, and must have a proven track record of modernizing technologies.
Close collaboration and alignment with business teams, application development teams and security will be required. As such, exceptional abilities in building and maintaining strong working relationships and organizational savvy will be required. High level communication and presentation skills are required. Ability to attract, retain, and develop engineering talent will be critical.

The Principal Engineer is ultimately responsible for shepherding a project team, contributing to the solution design, aiding with configuration development, and ensuring efficient and precise deployment within the complex GPC Enterprise Network environment.
Responsibilities:
~40% Execution & 30% Engineering Leadership
- Lead the architectural design and development of the Order Management system (B2B and B2C)
- Ensure the architecture aligns with the business objectives and scalability requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify integration points with other systems, such as ERP, Store Systems, WMS and e-commerce platforms.
- Implement solutions to enhance system performance, reliability and responsiveness.
- Provides mentoring and technical oversight to the GPC Engineering Team during solution delivery and configuration.
- Creates meaningful architecture diagrams and other documentation essential to the operation and management of the GPC Network.
~20% – Support & Enablement:
- Fields questions and inquiries concerning the GPC Order Management from other entities throughout the company.
- Collaborates with the Order Management team for the efficient and effective resolution of issues encountered within the domain.
- Oversees and implements architectural modifications and improvements to the network environment.
- Works with vendors to help identify and implement solutions and capabilities essential to the GPC service offering.
- Proactively reviews the Engineering Team skillsets, capabilities, and performance in the network and provides recommendations for improvements.
- Triages high priority issues and outages as they arise.
~10% – Learning:
- Moderates and manages Order Management Team development activities including cross-functionality training, mentoring, and general strategy discussions.
- Learns, through reading, tutorials, and videos, new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizations.
- Attends conferences and learns how to apply new technologies where appropriate

Location:
- GPC has two work locations to choose from, Duluth or Atlanta office.

Desired Qualifications & Experiences:
- Degree in Computer Science or Engineering fields, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of developing / implementing / customizing Distributed Order Management (DOM), Order Management System (OMS) (preferably IBM Sterling) and Inventory Visibility
- Hands on design and customizing experience with DOM and OMS, such as IBM Sterling OMS.
- 10+ Years’ experience developing extensions of DOM and OMS systems, preferable Sterling OMS. Expertise in Java/J2EE, XML, XSLT, Oracle and Middleware technologies.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction, be a self-starter with strong initiative, and ability to manage / execute workload to deliver high quality results in onsite-offshore model.
- Strong communication skills.
- Consistent track record of teamwork and delivering high impact results.
- Experience with public cloud such as GCP, AWS, or Azure (Preferably GCP).
