The Principal Engineer – RAMS is responsible for driving all Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) activities throughout the full lifecycle of complex transportation and rail projects. This role ensures that systems comply with contractual, regulatory, and international safety standards while providing technical leadership, interface management, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams. The position requires strong managerial abilities to oversee RAMS deliverables, stakeholder interfaces, and cross-functional integration.

Job Description

Key Capabilities

  • Solid experience in the sector and in-depth knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129).
  • Lead all RAMS-related activities from concept phase through design, testing, commissioning and project closeout. Review contract requirements and develop project-specific RAMS strategies, methodologies, and implementation plans.
  • Provide expert RAM and Safety support and guidance to engineering teams, designers, and project stakeholders.
  • Liaise with customers, end-users, subcontractors, suppliers, and certifying bodies to ensure alignment on RAMS requirements.
  • Review and support key RAM documentation and activities as per; RAM Plan, RAM Allocation, FMECA, RAM Modelling, RAM Analysis and RBDs, CCF, Spare Part List, RCIL and Maintainability Analysis.
  • Review and support key Safety documentation and activities as per; Safety Plan, PHA, SHA, SSHA, O&SHA, IHA, Hazard Log, Safety Case, SRAC, SCIL, SIL apportionment and SIL Demonstration.

Managerial Skills

  • Ensure clear communication, integration and alignment between internal packages and departments and external packages and stakeholders.
  • Coordination between design, construction, testing, and commissioning teams to ensure coherent RAM and Safety outcomes.
  • Serve as RAMS focal point in meetings, workshops, and design coordination sessions, ensuring traceability of RAMS requirements.
  • Monitor progress, flag potential issues, and coordinate resolution actions across interfacing teams in terms of RAMS and assurance.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electronics/Electrical, Civils, Systems Engineering, or equivalent RAMS-related discipline.

Minimum Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in RAMS Engineering.
  • Strong background in RAM Engineering and Safety Assurance. Advanced knowledge of reliability, availability, maintainability (RAM) analysis. Advanced knowledge of Safety Assurance
  • Practical experience across all stages of CENELEC standards (EN50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129).
  • Experience in railway design disciplines, including signalling, infrastructure, and rolling stock, will be valued.
  • High level of English.
