Principal Engineer, Embedded Software Lead
Analog Devices (ADI) is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our customer‑facing solutions team. This team supports a broad range of industry‑leading, high‑performance linear solutions and standard products across end applications such as industrial automation, instrumentation, automotive, healthcare, and communication systems, with a particular focus on aerospace and defence systems.
In this role, the Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for architecting software solutions and leading engineering teams that develop those solutions, interfacing ADI products with a variety of embedded processors, including FPGAs. Working as part of a cross‑functional team, the engineer leads the definition, development, implementation, and documentation of software solutions, and interfaces with internal teams, external partners, and customers to support system requirements, software validation, and ongoing support.
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain multi‑platform device drivers and software projects for embedded systems, including processor‑, FPGA‑, and microcontroller‑based platforms
- Collaborate closely with global engineering, marketing, and applications teams to develop new systems and reference solutions
- Provide technical and people leadership for software engineering teams throughout project definition and development
- Deliver customer support and contribute to technical training for field personnel and customers
Essential Skills and Competencies
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), or Computer Science (CS), with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the design, implementation, and support of embedded software
- Experience leading software teams, with a proven track record of successful software project execution and delivery
- Strong experience with at least one of the following Linux subsystems: IIO, V4L, ALSA, Ethernet
- Demonstrated proficiency in software development languages including C, C++, and shell scripting
- Experience with source‑code management (Git, SVN), cross‑compilers, and in‑circuit debugging tools
- Excellent software architecture, problem‑solving, and analytical debugging skills
- Solid understanding of electronics and embedded systems
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team to develop innovative solutions
- Proven record of technical leadership and delivery of large‑scale software projects
- Ability to understand and work with large and complex technical documentation
