Job Summary
The Principal Engineer, Electrical Systems Engineering is responsible for the design and development of 1-phase power products. This role requires strong technical knowledge, as well as excellent coaching skills to guide and mentor team members. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, experience with 1 phase power, systems engineering background, an understanding of printed circuit board design and development.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of advanced power electronics circuits, including converters, inverters, and power supplies.
- Conduct feasibility studies and simulations to optimize designs, ensuring efficiency, performance, and reliability.
- Define system architectures for power conversion and energy management systems, including power distribution, protection, and control strategies.
- Ensure seamless integration of power electronics with other subsystems (e.g., mechanical, thermal, and control systems)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, systems engineering) to define system-level requirements and resolve any integration issues.
- Utilize simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, LTspice) for circuit design, system modeling, and performance analysis.
- Conduct rigorous testing, troubleshooting, and fault analysis to ensure high reliability and performance under operational conditions.
- Establish test plans, procedures, and protocols for functional, environmental, and regulatory compliance testing.
- Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and interdisciplinary teams, offering guidance on best practices, design principles, and troubleshooting.
- Review designs and provide constructive feedback to ensure quality, innovation, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Oversee the entire product lifecycle of power electronics systems, from concept through design, validation, production, and maintenance.
- Work closely with product managers, R&D teams, and external stakeholders (e.g., suppliers, customers) to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet business and technical needs.
- Participate in the creation of project timelines, budgets, and resource plans.
- Conduct research on emerging technologies in power electronics, including wide bandgap semiconductors, energy storage, and power conversion techniques.
- Lead innovation efforts in areas such as energy efficiency, miniaturization, and system reliability.
- Identify opportunities to patent new technologies or techniques, contributing to the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
- Ensure that designs meet safety standards (e.g., UL, IEC, CE) and environmental regulations (e.g., RoHS, REACH).
- Lead by example in continuous improvement, best practices, and process documentation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical/electronic/Power Electronics engineering, master’s/PHD in engineering a plus but not must.
- 15+ years of core product development experience mainly into Power electronics
- Strong in-depth knowledge of full product design cycle and the engineering disciplines.
- 1-phase power system engineering.
- Engineering and design validation testing.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical circuit design and PCB layout.
- Root cause analysis.
- Familiar with MATLAB/PSIM simulation and HIL system
- Familiar with regulatory and safety standards and testing (UL, IEC, DOE, etc.).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to summarize and successfully communicate complex technical topics quickly to a broad range of people, including non-technical and leadership audiences.
- Fluent in English language skill a plus but not required.
- Travel as required, domestic and international, <10%
