About the Job 

As the Principal Engineer, Ecommerce & Digital Experiences, you'll be at the forefront of our digital transformation journey. You’ll focus on improving modeling, design, performance and scalability and reliability. You’ll help mentor engineers across the team and help establish one of the greatest tech teams outside of a tech company.

  • Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products. Leads efforts to optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment. Identifies best practices and coding patterns and provides deep expertise in the coding and validation strategy. Creates and applies metrics to drive the quality and stability of code, as well as appropriate coding patterns and best practices.
  • Leads the enterprise in domain driven design and event driven architecture.
  • Act as a technical expert and providing coding best practices and knowledge for complex engineering challenges. Provide architectural oversight and guidance toward a simple and domain-based architecture. Leads adoption and best practices for event driven architecture and defining and handling events.
  • Provides guidance and direction on creating systems that have high reliability, scalability, reusability, simplicity and are secure.
  • Provides guidance and direction on building telemetry and proper dashboards and alerts.
  • Acts as an expert in the software development lifecycle and can guide a team in agile and help improve the efficiency of a team and helps guide product managers.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, advancements in service health, and identify opportunities for innovation within the field.
  • Build bridges with cross-functional teams, bringing together product management, UX design, business unit leaders, and engineering to deliver a flagship website experience for our consumers.
  • Foster a product-led, customer-centric culture where our consumers and their experience with our brands is at the heart of every decision we make.
  • Prioritize talent development and help with hiring new talent and grow engineers that are already at Levi Strauss & Co.™

About You 

  • 15+ years of experience in product and/or platform engineering role, with tangible accomplishments in ecommerce or similar customer-facing digital experiences and APIs.
  • Solid business acumen, coupled with deep technical experience applying your vast experience across the stack.
  • Unwavering customer-focused ethos, placing the consumer at the core all decisions.
  • Demonstrated success working with geographically-distributed teams and in navigating the complexities associated with different locations and time zones.
  • Mastery of modern software development practices, including agile and lean tenets, CI/CD, and the broader DevOps movement with demonstrated improvements to software delivery performance.
  • Ability to connect, communicate, inspire, and catalyze collaboration across a spectrum of departments and functions.

The expected starting salary range for this role is $166,000 to $250,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on the location of the role. The amount a particular employee will earn within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance and business needs.
