This position may be located in Fargo, ND; Cary, NC; Waterloo, IA; Moline, IL; or Dubuque, IA per the hiring manager's discretion. This may be dependent on the successful candidate's background, experience, and proficiency.
This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule arrangement at the present time. The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes and remains subject to change.
Your Responsibilities
As a Principal Engineer, Advanced Engineering Electrificationfor Intelligent Solutions Grouplocated in Fargo, ND, Cary, NC, Waterloo, IA, Moline, IL or Dubuque, IA, you will u se expert knowledge of vehicle electrification to lead and execute research and development projects, and enhance John Deere intellectual property, in electrification. In addition, you will:

  • Leverage broad cross-disciplinary module and system knowledge in vehicle electrification to discover and set strategic research priorities in electrification which positively impact key John Deere performance metrics.
  • Use recognized industry reputation as a thought leader to impact decisions and directions of multiple platforms at John Deere.
  • Guide, coach, and train other employees to increase employee engagement and impact attraction, retention and development of electrification talent.
  • Collaborate strongly with platform engineers and others to get practical innovation from technology development into product development.

What Skills You Need
Recognized world-class expert in some, deep expertise in several, extensive knowledge in most, and at least working knowledge in all the following:

  • Power electronics (PE) switching modulation schemes such as space vector modulation, sine-triangle modulation, and power electronics implementation in driving rotary electric machines
  • PE magnetic components design, new PE topologies, grid tied PE
  • Engineering domains relevant to mechanical power conversion, including mechanical power transfer, fluid power transfer, and cooling systems
  • Theory of AC machines and three-phase circuits, magnetic circuits, and electromagnetics
  • Electrification controls domain knowledge
  • Application of simulation, dynamic systems modeling (DSM), and analysis software related to electrification modules and systems
  • Power electronics semiconductor physics
  • Power electronics packaging design
  • State-of-the-art power electronics printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) and enclosure design domain knowledge
  • State-of-the-art e-machines and integrated motor/drive design domain knowledge
  • State-of-the-art battery domain knowledge in battery electric vehicle (BEV) systems design and hybrid vehicle design
  • 5 or more years demonstrating success in influencing without authority
  • Demonstrated experience in producing high quality technical documentation
  • Proficient in training and teaching others
  • Fluent in written and verbal English
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally

  • 15 or more years of relevant experience, including 5 or more years of experience with system-level design and analysis of electric drives, including power electronics, harnesses, electrochemical batteries, and electric machines
  • Control systems expertise

Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • BS and MS in a traditional engineering discipline
