Why Account Authentication and Security?

The Roblox Account Authentication and Security team provides the front door for the metaverse. Across mobile, web, console, and all locales, we are responsible for onboarding Roblox players, creators and securing their sessions. When we do our job well, Roblox users will have a seamless and secure experience on Roblox. What makes Roblox unique is that our users tend to skew young and are therefore both impatient and vulnerable. This role is for someone who wants to be a technical leader in making account authentication and security child proof.

This is an excellent opportunity for a product engineer with expertise working on complex thick clients solving user authentication or account security problems to have a large scale impact. The team is product oriented and entrepreneurial with ~80% of our roadmap being sourced from within the team. As a Principal Software Engineer on Roblox’s Account Authentication team you will be responsible for collaborating with product managers, data scientists, immediate management, and executives to decompose strategic problems facing the Roblox community into smaller, more tractable, problems and subsequently craft creative, unconventional, technical solutions.

You Will:

  • Collaborate cross-organizationally with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and management at all levels.
  • Decompose strategic problems facing the Roblox community into smaller, more tractable problems.
  • Craft creative, unconventional technical solutions that will improve the usability, security, and scalability of Roblox accounts.
  • Provide technical leadership to an immediate working group of 12 ICs, helping them to implement, test, experiment and maintain strategic user facing authentication and account security features in Roblox’s thick client app.

You Have:

  • 9+ years of experience developing user facing products.
  • Experience landing high profile features on a cross platform project. Wherever users engage with Roblox, account authentication and security needs to work seamlessly.
  • Experience developing authentication or security features on some combination of thick client development on the web, consoles, iOS, or Android.
  • Proficiency with one of Lua, C++. Java, Kotlin, Objective-C, or Swift.
  • Experience with internal cross-functional product/customer support.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$283,780$331,640 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
