Why ACCOUNT AUTH AND SECURITY?
The Roblox Account Authentication and Security team provides the front door for the metaverse. For millions of users every second, across mobile, web, console, and all locales, we are responsible for onboarding Roblox players, creators, securing their sessions, and granting them access to Roblox experiences and services. When we do our job well, Roblox users of all ages have a seamless and secure authentication experience regardless of their platform or locale.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced full stack software engineer with a background in account identity, authentication, security or growth to take a holistic view across our backend servers and our ecosystem thick client components to improve usability, security and scalability of sign-up, login, recovery, and account security challenges.
As a team we are very entrepreneurial with about ~80% of our roadmap being sourced from within the team. We are also rigorous about measuring impact on usability, security, and scalability.
As a Principal Software Engineer on Roblox’s Account Authentication and Security team you will be responsible for collaborating with product managers, data scientists, immediate management, and executives to identify strategic problems and opportunities, decompose them into smaller, more tractable, problems and subsequently lead cross-organizational virtual teams of engineers to craft creative, unconventional, technical solutions.
You Will:
- Collaborate cross-organizationally with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and management at all levels
- Decompose strategic problems facing the Roblox community into smaller, more tractable problems
- Craft creative, unconventional technical solutions that will improve the usability, security, and scalability of Roblox accounts to our large, globally distributed, user base
- Provide technical leadership on a team of 20+ ICs in addition to other cross-functional collaborators
- Provide cross organizational technical leadership to identify and solve hard usability, scalability, and security problems
- Be entrepreneurial! This is a team that welcomes organic project proposals.
You Have:
- 9+ years of domain experience working Growth, Security, or Authentication. Influenced other teams or organizations without appointed authority
- Experience landing high profile features as part of a cross-organizational collaboration
- Proficiency with one of C#, C++, GoLang or Lua
You Are:
- A Technical Leader: You have initiated and facilitated complicated technical solutions. Your technical expertise influences product direction. You foster a culture of technical excellence
- Analytical: Excited to investigate large, ambiguous problems, and quantify the problems and the solutions. Willing to experiment. We are a data informed team. Experiments are a crucial part of that
- User Oriented: You always start with the needs of the user, whether they are Roblox users or internal engineers before architecting a solution
- Team Oriented: You lift up your peers and find ways to make the team stronger.
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
