We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal Electronics Engineer or Senior Principal Electronics Engineer based out of Baltimore, MD. 

This role may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level. 

What You’ll Get to Do: 

This position will support the development of cables and interconnects for all platforms including restricted space, air, ground and sea/naval systems development programs in Baltimore (Linthicum), Maryland. The candidate will work within the Hardware Engineering organization. Strong communication skills are required for success in all phases of the role.  The engineer will serve on and typically lead engineering teams, interfacing heavily with other mechanical engineers and analysts, as well as engineers from related disciplines, program management, and customers/stakeholders.  The engineer is expected to manage schedule and budget for assigned projects, with the ability to identify and communicate any issues that may impact these goals. 

The engineer will be responsible for solving challenging technical problems with innovative solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule requirements. The engineer will support all phases of the product life cycle, including requirements analysis, concept design, detailed design, manufacture, and environmental test.  The engineer will serve on engineering teams, and interface heavily with related disciplines and customers/stakeholders.  Strong communication skills are required for success in all phases of the role. 

The engineer will also contribute to overall knowledge base and skill level of the organization via coaching, knowledge transfer, and process improvement activities. 

This position is contingent upon contract award, the ability to obtain/maintain an active US Government Secret or the successful transfer of a US Government Secret prior to start and the ability to obtain/maintain a special access program clearance prior to start

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Electronics Engineer: 

Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience, Master’s degree with 3 years of experience, Ph.D. with 1 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree 

  • U.S Citizenship required. 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S Government Secret Clearance prior to starting. 

  • Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start. 

  • A current/active clearance is not required to be considered for the position, but a final clearance is required to start 

  • 5 years of experience in design and development of electrical harnesses for power distribution, RF, and fiber optics 

  • 5 years of experience in design, manufacturing, and integration of cables and harnesses, appropriate material selections and use of off the shelf components 

  • 5 years of experience in selection of harness components and hardware, connectors, backshells, cable, and wire 

  • 5 years of experience in cable diagram hierarchy via block – interconnect – schematic – wiring; and cable documentation either build-to-print –or- specification controlled 

  • 5 years of experience with mechanical CAD design tools such as Siemens NX or similar 

  • 5 years of demonstrated application of innovative solutions to complex problems 

  • 5 years of experience leading and reviewing technical work products of peers 

  • 5 years of experience presenting at design reviews and customer/stakeholder briefings

Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of experience, master’s degree with 6 years of experience, Ph.D. with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree 

  • U.S Citizenship required. 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S Government Secret Clearance prior to starting. 

  • Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start. 

  • A current/active clearance is not required to be considered for the position, but a final clearance is required to start. 

  • 8 years of experience in design and development of electrical harnesses for power distribution, RF, and fiber optics

  • Active US Government Secret Clearance or higher.

  • Working knowledge of military and commercial process specifications that are relevant to the development and testing of cables and harnesses for military applications. 

  • Cable modeling in E3 Zuken and/or Siemens Capital 

  • Demonstrated success leading others within an integrated product team (IPT), supporting the development of junior engineers and cross functional collaboration for overall project success. 

  • Experience with project management metrics, including earned value management, to monitor and manage engineering budget and schedule requirements. 

  • Experience contributing to technical and cost proposal development. 

  • Leadership in process improvement or knowledge transfer (i.e. publication) activities.

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
