Senior & Principal Electrical Engineers – Power | Suburban Rail Loop EastKBR, as part of the Linewide Alliance, is proud to be awarded the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Linewide Alliance contract. SRL is a city-shaping infrastructure project that will transform how people live and move around Melbourne.
The 90km orbital rail line will connect every major train line, link key precincts, and support vibrant communities. SRL East, the first stage, will deliver 26km of twin underground tunnels and six new stations between Cheltenham and Box Hill, enabling 70,000 new homes near public transport, jobs, schools, and services. It will create diverse, accessible communities shaped by local input, with upgraded open space, bike paths, and essential infrastructure.
The Alliance, comprising John Holland, Alstom, RATP DEC, WSP, and KBR, will deliver The Linewide package of works, which includes tunnel fit-outs, rolling stock, and construction of depot and maintenance facilities. This package is critical to safe, efficient train operations and long-term performance across SRL East.
KBR, alongside WSP as Designer Non-Owner Participant, is leading comprehensive design services and contributing to alliance management. Our infrastructure design scope includes track, overhead line equipment, drainage and overland flow, civil works, tunnel portals, building structures and services, HV and LV power systems, cable containment, systems integration and safety assurance, ensuring seamless delivery across the corridor.
Position summary
As our work on SRL East expands, KBR’s Power team is growing, and we are seeking experienced electrical engineers across a range of senior and principal level disciplines to help deliver this landmark project.
Opportunities Across Our Power Team Include:
Lead and Senior HV Substation Secondary Design Engineers
Lead and Senior Earthing & Bonding Engineer
Lead and Senior HV Primary Design Engineers
These roles will play a critical part in the design and integration of high voltage power systems supporting one of Australia’s most complex rail projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across rail, civil, systems, and construction.
What You’ll Be Involved In:
Detailed design of HV power systems
Technical leadership, design assurance, and mentoring
Interface management across complex rail and transport systems
Contributing to safe, resilient, and future focused infrastructure solutions
Working within a collaborative, delivery focused project environment
About You:
You are an experienced HV electrical engineer with proven substation design experience, ideally within rail, distribution, transmission or major infrastructure environments. You bring strong technical capability, a systems mindset, and a passion for delivering projects that leave a lasting legacy.

Skills Required
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering accredited under the Washington Accord or equivalent
- Chartered Engineer or ability to attain shortly
- Extensive experience delivering complex power engineering solutions
- Proven track record as a technical lead on multidisciplinary design projects
- Strong technical depth in HV/LV power system design
- Experience with DNSPs/TNSPs and/or major rail operators
- Excellent client-facing communication and leadership presence
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex scopes and competing priorities
- Commitment to mentoring and knowledge sharing
