We foster a flat hierarchy and a friendly, collaborative environment where every team member has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. If you're passionate about designing and building scalable distributed systems, solving complex technical challenges, and influencing the future of our platform, we'd love to hear from you!

Your Role

As a Principal Distributed Systems Engineer, you will define and drive the long-term evolution of our secure communications platform, shaping its architecture, scalability, and operational excellence. You will work across services, data platforms, infrastructure, and reliability engineering to enable substantial growth from current deployments to large-scale enterprise and government environments, while preserving the security, resilience, and certifiability that differentiate our solutions.

As part of our agile scrum teams, you will collaborate closely with Operations and C++ / Python developers, influencing architecture through measurement, operational experience, and technical leadership.

In This Role, You Will

  • Design and implement scalable service and data platforms using technologies such as Kafka, ScyllaDB/Cassandra, Redis, and MariaDB
  • Ensure all platform components meet stringent security and compliance requirements, including encryption, access control, hardening, and certification evidence
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams integrating with the platform and adopting new architectural patterns
  • Drive the adoption of AI-powered tools, solutions, and practices to improve operational efficiency and business outcomes

Are you the person we’re looking for?

  • Can you balance independent decision-making with effective cross-functional collaboration?
  • Do you actively seek opportunities to expand your knowledge and continuously improve?
  • Are you comfortable communicating professionally in both German and English, whether in meetings, presentations, or written communication?

  • Hands-on experience with scalable high-availability architectures, clustering technologies, load balancing, and stateful distributed services
  • Programming experience in Python and the ability to work effectively with C++ codebases.
  • Strong understanding of security principles including TLS, PKI, encryption at rest, access control, and secure system design.

Beneficial

  • Experience designing and operating geo-redundant, multi-site platforms
  • Experience with enterprise virtualization, cloud computing, and hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Experience working in Common Criteria or other certification-driven environments.
  • Strong performance engineering capabilities, including load testing, capacity planning, cost modeling, observability, profiling, and system optimization.
