Job Description:

Job Title – Principal - Database Administrator 

The Purpose of This Role

Associate will be part of Data Operations COE group within Enterprise Data & AI Division that primarily provides DBA support for multiple RDBMS like Oracle, Oracle E-Business Suite, Db2, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQL Server, Ec2/RDS on AWS. In addition, this team is also responsible for Data Lake Operations on Cloud that supports Nifi (ELT Tool), Collibra Data Governance, Alation Data Catalogue Enterprise Tools & Platform Engineering (Informatica, Middleware), Data masking (TDM) & Enterprise Analytical Platform (Snowflake) Admin/Operational Support

Work closely with CTG & EDAI BU in supporting their databases ensuring the stability, performance & help migrate them to public cloud as part of the organization data strategy by partnering with Product teams & Architects

Core duties include:

  • Work closely with the product development team from the design phase of application & throughout their Agile development journey, the future enhancements & releases

  • Be part of their Agile Squad planning, understand the priorities & roadmap

  • Participate in the application stress/load test & proactively identify & resolve the DB performance (batch/OLTP) issues that can potentially breach the SLA’s when the code moves to production

  • Highlight the new DB features to the product teams that could be used in the application as future enhancements & releases

  • Support the Database Migration, Upgrades as part of Technology Life Cycle Management to be compliant with organization standards

  • Provide DB Capacity Analysis & provide insights to product teams on future storage & hardware requirements based on the current data growth & overall system performance

  • Identify aging data, propose/develop/implement data archiving, purging & partitioning solutions to manage the data growth

  • Handling Database/Schema Refreshes for the lower database environments

  • Understand the RTO/RPO requirements for the application & databases to define the database backup, restore policy & solutioning the MAA (Maximum Availability Architecture)

  • Managing Database Security Audit violations & resolving them

  • DB User/Access/Roles management

  • Troubleshooting & fixing production DB/SQL performance issues (CPU intensive & long running)

  • Providing Oncall support (12/7), working with vendor on DB issues, bugs & provide solution

  • Schedule and Co-ordinate various maintenance activities with Support teams.

  • Data Replication design and implementation using Golden Gate

  • Work on any new DB technology/new-features, POC requirements from application team

  • Help the application team in migrating their databases to public cloud (AWS).

The Skills that are Key to this role

Technical / Behavioral

  • Core Oracle DBA skills (Oracle 12c/19c), RAC & Data guard

  • Strong in Oracle Internals, DBA_ Dictionary views & basic Data modelling concepts

  • Oracle DB/SQL Performance Tuning & relevant tools (SQLTRACE, TKPROF, AWR, ADDM, SQL PROFILE, SQL BASELINES)

  • Good understanding on Access Methods, Joins, different Indexes & its usage, Index scans, interpreting EXECUTION PLANS, Table/Index Statistics, Histograms, wait events & partitioning.

  • Analyze Oracle 19c database workloads with emphasis on I/O-intensive & long running SQL queries

  • Review execution plans, table/index statistics, and storage usage

  • Identify performance bottlenecks due to full table scans, large table joins, and high-latency disk operations & fine tune the system

  • Strong on PL/SQL Programming

  • Working experience on Oracle Golden Gate for Data Replication

  • Working experience on Shell scripting for Automation

  • Problem solving and good analytical skills

The Skills those are good to have for this role

  • AWS or relevant cloud technology experience on DB migration to public AWS/Azure from on-prem.

  • Open-Source Database like PostgreSQL etc.

  • Knowledge on NO-SQL/Distributed DB’s like MongoDB or Cassandra & Yugabyte or Cockroach.

  • Basic knowledge on Tableau/PowerBI/Oracle Apex for building dashboards

  • AWS/Azure/OCI cloud Certified

Helping the product teams to migrate their databases to public cloud & achieving the organization’s data strategy on having 70% applications migrated to cloud by 2024 & also providing a stable & highly performing DB environment

The Expertise we’re looking for

  • 8 to 13 years of Oracle DBA (IT) experience

  • 4 + years of experience on Oracle DB & SQL Performance Tuning using various Oracle tools is a must.

  • 1 to 2 or experience in PL/SQL Development & strong in writing effective SQL Queries

  • Experience on automation using shell scripting or python programming or Oracle APEX

  • Certification in Oracle or other RDBMS
