Position Description:
Provides technical guidance on the installation, upgrade, and architectural design of complex large-scale environments with a multi-terabyte data footprint on Oracle databases and Postgres database. Applies advanced knowledge of concepts, theories, practices of professional/technical design, architects and implements database administration procedures. Designs and manages large Oracle databases on IBM AIX Unix platforms, Oracle Application database administration, data normalization, replication, partitioning, and Oracle physical database design. Installs, designs, and manages large Postgres databases on Linux RHEL 7. Configures and supports database monitoring procedures including the definition of metrics, alert thresholds, alert integration with ServiceNow using EnterpriseDB (EDB).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Documents designs, operational procedures, and standards for highly complex/business critical databases.
- Establishes performance tuning criteria and methods in coordination with internal and external technical resources.
- Tests and implements new design features for general use and defines/evaluates database maintenance tools to build processes.
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures to minimize future incident occurrences in support of security requirements and operational procedures to ensure infrastructure integrity and authorized access.
- Creates business test cases to justify information security architecture initiatives for complex projects in support of full lifecycle plans.
- Provides technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives and monitors database servers and provides first level database production support for critical applications.
- Reviews SQL code to support performance analysis, query tuning, database application design, and physical data modeling, for development support and engineering.
- Works with enterprise teams to support systems administration, cyber security, and capacity planning to develop methods for optimal product integration and alignment in support of the business.
- Mentors junior team members.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing database administration and performance tuning within large-scale Oracle and Postgres environments.
Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing database administration and performance tuning within large-scale Oracle and Postgres environments.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
- Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) defining the High Availability (HA) level of database systems and conducting Disaster Recovery (DR) on Oracle and Postgres environments; designing logical and physical data models using Oracle and Postgres based systems; and developing and monitoring automation using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Postgres Enterprise Manager (PEM), and Shell scripts.
- DE performing Oracle multitenant database administration using Oracle EBusiness suite platform; performing logical, streaming native, and cross platform replication using Debezium/Kafka (supported by Postgres extensions) within Postgres database environments; and performing cross platform replication using Golden Gate in Oracle database environments.
- DE performing database maintenance (tuning, diagnosing performance issues, discovering reactive and proactive mitigation procedures and troubleshooting) on real-time database applications using pgbadger, lasso reports, Postgres Enterprise Manager for Postgres, and Oracle Automatic Workload repository (AWR), and OEM for Oracle and E-business suite platforms.
- DE performing Oracle database upgrades on AIX platforms; deploying and upgrading Postgres databases; deploying pipeline automations using Udeploy, Liquibase, and Jenkins; and assessing and testing database ServiceNow requests, automated incidents, and change management events to evaluate business risk from a server, storage, network, and database perspective adhering to Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and SOC1 requirements.
