Job Role
As a Principal Data Platform & DevOps Engineer, you will lead the design, implementation, and operation of the platforms, automation, and engineering practices that power the Central Data Operations (CDOPS) ecosystem. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, security, and observability of our data platforms, enabling engineering teams to build and deliver high-quality data products efficiently and at scale.
Operating at the intersection of Data Engineering and DevOps, you will define the technical direction for platform services, including Apache Airflow, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Snowflake, CI/CD pipelines, container platforms, and developer tooling that support enterprise data ingestion, transformation, and analytics. You will champion platform engineering best practices, operational excellence, automation, and developer experience while helping establish modern DataOps capabilities across the organization.
Working closely with Engineering, BI, AI, and Analytics teams, you will build resilient, self-service data platforms and provide technical leadership that drives continuous improvement and innovation.
The Team
The candidate will be part of a highly collaborative and technically skilled Central Data Operations team whose mission is to build, operate, and continuously improve the data platform. The team delivers secure, reliable, and scalable data infrastructure, automation, and developer tooling that enable Data Engineering, BI, and AI teams to efficiently deliver trusted data solutions. Working with a customer-centric mindset and strong Agile and DevOps practices, the team drives operational excellence, platform reliability, and continuous innovation across the data ecosystem.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Airflow Platform: Build, maintain, and enhance the Apache Airflow platform, including custom Docker images, scalability, and reliability.
- CI/CD & Automation: Design and manage CI/CD pipelines for Airflow, Microsoft Fabric/Power BI, and Snowflake using GitLab, Terraform, and DBT.
- Platform Operations: Operate containerized Linux-based data platforms, improve developer experience, and automate operational tasks.
- Monitoring & Reliability: Implement observability, manage incidents, and maintain dashboards, alerts, and operational documentation.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Partner with engineering teams to deliver scalable platform solutions, provide technical leadership, and mentor engineers.
MUST HAVE SKILLS
- 5+ years hands‑on experience in Data Engineering, Platform Engineering or DevOps roles.
- Strong Python programming skills for automation, platform engineering, and developer tooling.
- Deep understanding of Linux, networking, containers, Kubernetes, and distributed systems.
- Experience designing and operating highly available Apache Airflow platforms.
- Expertise in CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and DevOps automation.
- Strong knowledge of observability, monitoring, logging, and production operations.
- Familiarity with enterprise data platforms, modern data architectures, and cloud technologies.
- Hands-on experience with technologies including Docker, Helm, Git, GitLab CI/CD, Snowflake, dbt, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DataHub, SonarCloud, Airbyte, Budibase, LimeSurvey, Portainer, Dockhand, and cloud platforms such as Azure and Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC).
- Experience with Apache Hop and HashiCorp Vault is desirable.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
