JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
As a Principal Data Architect/Data Modeler, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable data architecture and modeling solutions. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of data systems, governance, and security. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity, optimize performance, and drive business insights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Architecture & Strategy: Lead the design of scalable, robust data management systems and architectures/data models that support current and future business needs.
- Understand the key drivers, define KPIs and design systems to achieve these goals in an incremental delivery approach.
- Design an information-sharing strategy for the organization, and ensure it supports key enterprise initiatives and strategies, such as Data Lake, Operational Data Store (ODS) and Enterprise Data Warehouse and associated BI reporting and analytics platforms
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements and design required data models – Conceptual, Logical and Physical to support the technical implementation.
- Lead data modeling sessions, create data flows, conduct design sessions to come up with required data attributes mapping from source systems all the way through ODS/EDW into reporting environments.
- Create and maintain data models using data modeling tools
- Define standards for naming, describing, governing, managing, modeling, transforming, moving, storing and delivering all data within the enterprise
- Serve as the liaison between data consumers and data engineers to architect data integration pipelines
- Apply architectural and technology concepts to address scalability, security, reliability, maintainability and sharing of enterprise data.
- Mentor and guide team members including data modelers and data engineers
- Data Governance: Establish and maintain data standards, governance frameworks, and best practices across systems and teams.
- Develop and enforce data governance policies to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
- Data Quality & Stewardship: Define and implement strategies for monitoring and improving data quality, lineage, and metadata management.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Act as a technical lead and mentor for data engineers; partner with stakeholders to align data architecture with business goals
- Technology Evaluation: Research and evaluate emerging data technologies, and drive adoption of tools that enhance data performance and reliability
- Compliance & Security: Ensure data models and architecture support to meet regulatory and security requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOC2, etc.)
Requirements:
- ● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture, modeling, and management
- Proficiency in data modeling tools (e.g., Erwin, Toad Data Modeler) and understanding of OLTP, Operational Data Store (ODS) and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) concepts and supporting database systems (like SQL Server, NoSQL DBs – Cosmos, Redshift and Databricks)
- Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects under tight deadlines
Preferred Skills:
- Certifications in data architecture or related fields (e.g., CDMP, TOGAF)
- Experience with data science centric data solutions
- Familiarity with ETL tools and data warehousing concepts
POSITION TYPE
RegularPAY RANGE
The targeted base salary for this position is $149,000 to $214,300 per year. The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
