The I&A Product Suite team is organized across 4 pillars: 360 Insights, Forecasting, Targeting & Recommendation, Measurement & Optimization

The Opportunity

We are looking for a visionary, highly strategic, and growth-minded Principal Business Product Manager to join our Insights & Analytics product suite within the Targeting pillar. Operating at a Director level, this role requires a rigorous first-principles thinker with exceptional core product management capabilities. You thrive on deconstructing complex business problems, navigating dense data environments, and orchestrating cross-functional teams (spanning product activation, data science, AI/ML, and technology) to translate complex analytical models into clear, high-impact business solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Partner with the Business Product Owner and/or Executive Director of Product Suite to support the definition of the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Targeting & Recommendation products.

  • Apply rigorous first-principles thinking to break down dense, ambiguous business challenges across Commercial, Medical, Sales and Access teams, translating them into scalable, long-term data and analytics product solutions.

  • Leverage complex data insights to propel significant, measurable business transformation, driving enterprise-wide product adoption and market differentiation.

Product Development & Execution

  • Manage advanced data and analytics products through their full lifecycle: from initial ideation and complex requirement definition to launch, scaling, and ongoing performance optimization.

  • Partner closely with Technical Product Managers, Data Leads, Data Scientists, and IT engineering to steer the development, deployment, and optimization of sophisticated analytical models, API service layers, and intuitive UI/UX capabilities.

  • In close partnership with business activation teams, oversee end-to-end business process mapping, user feedback compilation, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure high-velocity feature rollouts and immediate end-user adoption.

  • Establish robust agile operational standards, backlog management rigor, and reusable product templates to ensure seamless pull-through and efficient execution.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Serve as the vital bridge between senior commercial/business leaders and deep technical engineering squads, ensuring product milestones remain perfectly aligned with overarching corporate objectives.

  • Drive cross-functional consensus and actively evangelize the product’s strategic value proposition to executive stakeholders across diverse organizational channels.

  • Champion a practice-based apprenticeship model, actively coaching, mentoring, and upskilling cross functional product teams including program managers, operations managers, and peers within the broader product community.

  • Comply with all laws, regulations, and policies governing Genentech's business activities

Who You Are

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, technology, data science, or other quantitative field.

  • Experience: 8+ years of experience with at least 5 years in pharmaceutical analytics or business analytics product management across multiple therapeutic areas.

  • Product Management Expertise: Proven experience in a Product Manager or Product Owner role, taking an analytical or digital product through its full lifecycle (ideation to launch).

  • Insights Native: Deep understanding of integrated insights in pharmaceutical commercial, medical, sales and access fields.

  • Stakeholder Alignment: Proven success in aligning cross-functional stakeholders and the ability to "push back" on requests that are misaligned with corporate objectives.

  • Agile Fluency: Experience working in an Agile setting, managing product backlogs, and coordinating with technical IT/Data teams.

  • Communication and collaboration: Exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to evangelize the "Product Vision" to both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborate cross functionally to enable product roadmap.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree: MBA, MS in Business Analytics,Data science or related graduate-level qualification.

  • Technical Savvy: Experience working with AI (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.), Jira, data visualization tools (Tableau/PowerBI), product prototyping, and cloud-based data environments.

  • Regulated Industry Experience: Deep knowledge of healthcare-specific data sets and the compliance frameworks surrounding them.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $166,500 - $309,300 USD Annual.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
