Job Description

Smiths Business Information Services (BIS) is responsible for the development, implementation and lifecycle management of enterprise IT systems across the Group. With an integrated ERP landscape, BIS plays a key role in driving productivity through the digitisation and optimisation of end‑to‑end business processes.

 

We are seeking a Principal Business Analyst to act as a recognised expert within Operational Excellence and Supply Chain Management transformation. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across Group and Divisional functions to shape strategy, define requirements and deliver high‑impact solutions that support business performance and continuous improvement.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand strategic objectives and drive process automation and transformation initiatives
  • Lead enterprise-wide business analysis activities aligned to measurable outcomes
  • Define and deliver demand solutioning within the PMO, ensuring alignment to architectural principles and current technology landscape
  • Act as subject matter expert across value chains including Deliver Products and Source to Pay
  • Facilitate requirements gathering and translate business needs into clear, actionable solutions
  • Develop and maintain prioritised backlogs, working with Product Owners and Delivery Managers
  • Use data, user research and insight to inform decision-making and improve business analysis approaches
  • Identify and drive process improvements, contributing to roadmap development and delivery plans
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Data teams to ensure integrated and scalable solutions
  • Champion quality and continuous improvement across the Business Analysis community, including coaching and best practice sharing

Qualifications

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Significant experience in a Principal or Senior Business Analyst role within transformation programmes
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain and operational excellence in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Expertise across ERP platforms, specifically SAP ECC 6.0.
  • Strong analytical capability with an evidence-based approach to problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead change and manage multiple priorities in a complex environment
  • Solid understanding of systems integration and business process design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Visio or equivalent

Desirable:

  • Experience in business process re-engineering and change management
  • Familiarity with SAP supply chain modules (MM, PP, QM, SD, WM)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems and related tools
  • Professional certifications (e.g. CBAP, Lean Six Sigma, Agile, ITIL)
