POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Principal on Assignment provides temporary or ongoing leadership to the LTS campus identified by the superintendent as having the greatest need. Assignments may change based on vacancies, leadership transitions, enrollment, campus performance, growth, or other district priorities. 

Reporting directly to the superintendent, the Principal on Assignment leads the assigned campus in alignment with LTS policies, procedures, mission, vision, core values, and educational model. The position supervises assigned campus staff and works with district leaders to strengthen instruction, student achievement, staff performance, school culture, safety, and operations. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Responsibilities may vary by campus assignment and include the following: 

Campus Leadership and Transition 

  • Quickly assess the campus's instructional, staffing, operational, safety, and cultural needs. 

  • Establish priorities and an action plan in consultation with the superintendent and appropriate district leaders. 

  • Provide stable, visible leadership during vacancies, transitions, growth, or periods of increased need. 

  • Maintain continuity of campus programs, communications, operations, and student services. 

  • Document priorities, actions, outcomes, and unresolved matters to support an effective handoff when the assignment changes. 

  • Apply district policies, procedures, and accountability expectations consistently. 

Instructional and Staff Leadership 

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs aligned with state and district standards. 

  • Establish measurable campus goals and use student performance data to monitor progress, identify needs, and guide interventions. 

  • Conduct at least five classroom visits, provide timely feedback, and complete formal employee evaluations in accordance with district policy. 

  • Set clear performance expectations; recognize strong performance and address concerns promptly through coaching, remediation, or corrective action. 

  • Hire, supervise, develop, and retain effective staff in collaboration with Human Resources and district leadership. 

  • Plan professional development that strengthens instructional practice and builds future school leaders. 

  • Foster a collaborative professional culture centered on high expectations, accountability, and continuous improvement. 

Students, Families, and Community 

  • Maintain a safe, orderly, positive, and achievement focused campus environment. 

  • Promote student attendance, enrollment, retention, citizenship, character development, and academic success. 

  • Apply student discipline expectations consistently and communicate with parents or guardians as appropriate. 

  • Maintain a visible presence and build constructive relationships with students, employees, families, community organizations, the media, and other schools. 

  • Address concerns promptly and oversee clear, timely campus communications. 

  • Communicate the district's and school's mission, goals, and expectations to campus and community stakeholders. 

Operations, Safety, and Compliance 

  • Oversee the assigned campus's budget, purchasing, staffing schedules, student records, attendance reporting, facilities, and allocation of resources. 

  • Direct short and long term campus planning based on district priorities, school goals, and projected needs. 

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, district policies, required training, and reporting obligations. 

  • Maintain emergency procedures and ensure compliance with fire drill, lockdown, evacuation, and other campus safety requirements. 

  • Monitor school buildings and grounds and coordinate maintenance or safety needs. 

  • Evaluate campus programs, systems, and technology and recommend changes that improve effectiveness, efficiency, or compliance. 

  • Participate in district committees, special projects, meetings, events, and other duties as assigned. 

PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS 

The Principal on Assignment must model the district's mission, values, and professional standards; communicate clearly; protect confidential information; and exercise sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy. 

The position requires adaptability, effective prioritization, collaborative problem solving, and the ability to build trust quickly in changing campus environments. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS 

  • Master's degree in education, educational administration, educational leadership, or a related field. 

  • Current Principal Certification. 

  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check. 

  • At least five years of successful teaching experience. 

  • At least five years of school administration experience. 

  • At least two years of experience in charter school operations. 

  • At least three years of experience leading at a turnaround school 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Advanced knowledge of school operations, instructional leadership, staff supervision, and educational program administration. 

  • Demonstrated ability to assess needs and develop, implement, and evaluate improvement plans. 

  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. 

  • Excellent leadership, communication, organization, decision making, and relationship building skills. 

  • Ability to manage sensitive situations and represent the school and district professionally in diverse settings. 

  • Ability to enter a new campus environment, establish priorities, build trust, and lead through change. 

  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work the hours necessary to meet campus and district needs.
