Job Summary

The Premium Auditor is responsible for independently conducting detailed audits of policyholders’ operations and financial records to ensure accurate insurance premium determination. This role involves conducting physical and hybrid audits across multiple lines of business, serving as a technical subject matter expert, mentoring junior audit staff. The Premium Auditor plays a key role in mentoring less experienced auditors, supporting quality assurance efforts, and contributing to departmental training initiatives

Work Location

This position offers both remote and hybrid work locations out of our West Bend or Madison, WI office.  The ideal candidate must currently reside in SE Wisconsin for this opportunity.  You may occasionally be asked to travel to an office location for in-person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and corporate events.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Conduct premium audits by examining policyholder operations and financial documentation to determine actual exposure in accordance with insurance coverage.
  • Schedule and perform physical and hybrid audits across various lines of business, including Workers Compensation, General Liability, Auto Liability, and Garage.
  • Identify and collect appropriate documentation to complete thorough and accurate audits.
  • Analyze and interpret financial data to calculate correct earned premiums.
  • Apply and interpret auditing standards using industry manuals such as the Basic Manual for Workers Compensation and Employers Liability Insurance, ISO Commercial Lines Manual, SCOPES, and PAAS Reference Materials.
  • Collaborate professionally with agents, underwriters, policyholders, and internal teams to clarify audit results and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support quality assurance and peer review processes by validating complex audits for accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as a technical mentor to Premium Auditor I and II associates, providing guidance on audit procedures and regulatory interpretation.
  • Assist with departmental training by sharing expertise in manuals, classifications, and audit process best practices.
  • Contribute to process improvements and audit documentation updates based on emerging trends or regulatory changes.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • 4-6 years of premium audit hybrid or field experience across multiple lines of business.
  • Knowledge of insurance manuals and industry standards (e.g., NCCI, ISO, PAAS).
  • Organizational, analytical, customer service and interpretive skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry software
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.
  • Effectively multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Written, verbal & interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or related field
  • Completion of Program in General Insurance
  • Course work towards Associate in Premium Auditing designation
Salary Statement

The salary range for this position is $61,549-$96,505.

  

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.  Compensation decisions are made by West Bend and are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
