Position Summary

The Preconstruction Coordinator provides administrative, technical, and field engineering support to Forgen's preconstruction and operations teams. This position assists with the preparation of estimates, quantity takeoffs, proposal documents, project capture activities, and preconstruction-to-operations turnover. Working closely with Estimators, Project Managers, Engineers, and Capture Teams, the Preconstruction Coordinator helps ensure bids, proposals, and project startup activities are accurate, organized, and aligned with company standards.

The role combines responsibilities in estimating support, field engineering, CAD drafting, quantity takeoffs, and proposal development while providing exposure to the full project lifecycle from opportunity identification through project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Preconstruction & Capture Support

  • Support capture teams in the development and preparation of bids, proposals, presentations, and prequalification packages.
  • Assist in gathering project information, bid documents, drawings, specifications, and solicitation requirements.
  • Support opportunity tracking, bid calendars, and proposal schedules.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client outreach activities as assigned.
  • Assist in preparing technical proposal content, graphics, exhibits, schedules, and work plans.
  • Help identify risks, opportunities, and competitive advantages during pursuit planning activities.
  • Coordinate bid deliverables and ensure submission packages are complete and compliant.

Estimating Support

  • Perform quantity takeoffs from plans, specifications, and digital models.
  • Assist estimators with the development of labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Maintain estimating files, bid tabs, and historical cost databases.
  • Support estimate reviews and bid-day activities.
  • Assist in developing preliminary budgets and conceptual estimates.
  • Organize and archive bid files and support documentation.
  • Support schedule development using project scheduling software.

Field Engineering Support

  • Review construction plans, specifications, and contract documents for constructability and completeness.
  • Support technical reviews, site documentation, and project startup planning.
  • Assist with project submittals, RFIs, and turnover documentation.
  • Coordinate engineering, surveying, and field information during project mobilization.
  • Assist Project Managers and Project Engineers with project planning and cost tracking activities.
  • Support material procurement and equipment planning efforts.
  • Help develop construction work packages and startup documentation for awarded projects.

Preconstruction Turnover Support

  • Prepare turnover packages for operations teams upon project award.
  • Organize estimate files, assumptions, risk registers, schedules, quotations, subcontractor information, and proposal commitments.
  • Participate in turnover meetings with estimating, engineering, and construction teams.
  • Document key bid assumptions, risks, and commercial requirements.
  • Assist with project startup and mobilization planning activities.
  • Ensure continuity from proposal development through project execution.

CAD & Technical Support

  • Develop and revise drawings, exhibits, haul routes, staging plans, and proposal graphics.
  • Generate quantity takeoffs using design drawings and digital terrain models.
  • Create grading plans, sections, profiles, and site layouts.
  • Support volume calculations and earthwork modeling activities.
  • Assist with preparation of technical exhibits and client presentation materials.
  • Maintain drawing standards and project file organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Surveying, Drafting, or related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience supporting construction, estimating, engineering, surveying, CAD, or preconstruction activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are important.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive for company business.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or experience in heavy civil, geotechnical, environmental, mining, earthwork, or specialty construction.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and volume calculations.
  • Exposure to proposal development or construction estimating.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
  • Familiarity with surveying equipment, GPS systems, or Trimble Business Center.
  • Experience supporting project engineering or field operations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This office and field hybrid role requires frequent computer use and effective communication, with travel to project sites as needed. Site visits may involve extended periods of standing or walking and required PPE, with potential exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and extreme weather.
