Department OverviewThe Pre-Sales Engineering Team is a segment of Motorola Solutions’ mobile video business. Our team focuses on designing, demoing, and deploying body-worn cameras, in-car video systems, License Plate Readers (LPRs), and digital evidence management system (backend software) for Government and Public Safety customers.
Job Description

The position of the Mobile Video Pre-Sales Engineer is to work independently and in partnership with the Public Safety Mobile Video sales, engineering, product management, proposals, pricing, and system implementation teams to provide technical responses for budgetary, sole source and competitive bid responses within a clearly defined time period. The Pre-Sales Engineer acts as the owner of the technical solution for a customer design. The position requires the ability to analyze and design complex solutions that meet the customer’s needs.

The Mobile Video Pre-Sales Engineer will also be responsible for deploying customer evaluations and demoing Mobile Video products. This position requires travel (50%-75%) and is considered a secondary customer facing position. This position reports to the Pre-Sales Engineer Team Leader.

 Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for being the technical solution owner of budgetary, competitive, and sole source proposal responses

  • Assist in providing point-by-point technical responses to Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Information (RFI) responses

  • Provide hardware and software recommendations based on customer requirements

  • Provide solutions description and system configuration diagrams

  • Provide bill of material for software, hardware, and non-standard third party applications

  • Identify interface requirements and solicit system implementation team for design

  • Conduct customer-facing technical requirements discovery sessions for estimation and configuration (conference call or in person)

  • Build relationships with sales, internal engineering, system integration, proposal, pricing, and key technical subject matter expert teams within the organization

  • Develop a functional and technical understanding of all Mobile Video products

  • Work with the customer and the sales team to deploy product evaluations as necessary

  • Ability to provide customer product training (both in-person and virtual)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio

  • Travel as needed to include but not limited to the following:

  • Technical Training

  • Regional Sales Meetings

  • Customer Demonstrations

  • Onsite Customer Meetings

  • Trade Shows

 Specific Knowledge/Skills:

  • 5+ years of Public Safety software application system implementation experience

  • Computer hardware sizing, configuration, and implementation experience

  • TCP/IP computer networking and design experience

  • Ability to pass a background check and/or security clearance for a customer as necessary

  • Experience reading and writing interface requirements

  • Wireless Networking (WLAN) background

  • LTE Network Modem/Router background (Sierra products a plus)

  • Basic knowledge of License Plate Recognition (LPR)

  • Technical writing experience and the ability to deliver technical information to a non-technical audience

  • Basic knowledge of Radio Voice Communications Networks

  • Basic knowledge of Motorola Solutions Public Safety Applications

  • Knowledge of Public Safety operations

  • Virtual system implementation and design including both server and desktop virtualization

  • Windows Server (OS, SQL) familiarity

  • VMWare familiarity

  • This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.
