The Role
Creates and prepares print plates and screens for label and packaging production. Reads job tickets, assembles plates, checks proofs and print quality, reclaims screens, maintains equipment and inventory, and troubleshoots issues. The role requires precise measurement, proofreading, mechanical aptitude, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment around machinery. It is a night-shift position with regular standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to noise, UV light, dust, and moving equipment.

We specialize in making the labeling and packaging that helps you choose the best products every day.   A variety of decoration technologies exist at CCL including digital, screen, offset, flexo, and rotogravure printing. We also utilize combination presses that can combine the different printing technologies and run them together with cold and hot foil. CCL has state-of-the-art finishing equipment in place to supply labels that live up to, and even exceed, customers’ expectations. Included are process parameters like the reel winding and slitting tolerances. Material and/or printing defects can be detected by automatic camera inspection systems and are easily eliminated by the operators.

Preferred Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Pre-Press Platemaker create press plates according to job specifications and established procedure using platemaking, testing and computer equipment.  Performs quality inspection of plates to ensure they meet specifications and to identify any imperfections


Supervisory Responsibilities:  None 


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare print plates and screens to provide clear and accurate product
  • Read and comprehend job tickets
  • Assemble screen or plates while checking for distortion, tap, colors or step.
  • Reclaim used screens and maintains screens.
  • Cleans processing equipment
  • Checks proofs for correctness
  • Maintains supply inventory
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Be safety conscious and have the ability to regularly work in a production environment with fast moving machinery and product under little supervision
  • Have safety awareness and ability to recognize hazards including, but not limited to staying out of safety light areas while machinery is operating and maintaining a safe distance as required.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all general safety policies and procedures in accordance with Company, State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to proof-read, spot errors and inconsistencies and take appropriate action
  • Good mechanical aptitude and skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals quickly and correctly.
  • Skill in practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
  • Skill in performing measurement operations with units in imperial and metric systems.
  • Ability to measure with exceptional accuracy using various measurement tools.
  • Able to read, interpret and follow documents such as work instructions, safety rules, Standard Operating Procedures, and maintenance instructions/manuals to properly perform work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems.
  • Willingness and ability to work with other team members and management.
  • Strong work ethic and good attitude towards work.
  • Honest, reliable team player.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • 6 months or more Experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred)

 

Physical Requirements:   

  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms above and below shoulder level
  • Regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Regularly communicate in some manner either by speech/hearing or through written communication.
  • Regularly use of vision abilities including close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly work around moving machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Frequently required to push/pull.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently exposed to high-speed moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequently exposed to UV, strobing or flashing light.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes, dust or airborne particles.
  • Regularly exposed to moderate noise level in the work environment.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Ability to work safely in a production environment around fast-moving machinery and products
  • Ability to recognize hazards and follow company, state, federal, and OSHA safety policies
  • Strong attention to detail, proofreading ability, and ability to identify errors and inconsistencies
  • Good mechanical aptitude and skills
  • Ability to perform arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Knowledge of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
  • Ability to perform measurements using imperial and metric units
  • Ability to measure accurately with various measurement tools
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety rules, SOPs, and maintenance instructions
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems
  • Ability to work effectively with team members and management
  • Reliable, honest, safety-conscious team player with a strong work ethic
  • At least 6 months of manufacturing experience
