Huhtamaki, a leading supplier of drinking cups, frozen dessert, and food packaging containers, has an immediate opening for a Pre-Press Coordinator in the Fulton, New York facility. We are looking for new members to join our team who are aligned with our core values of commitment to excellence; customer service and accountability.
Job Summary
Provide flexo and litho graphics, prepress and plate making support in a digital environment. Assist in coordination of shop orders and print schedules to accomplish daily print department requirements.
Essential Functions
- Image, process, and prepare litho plates for printing.
- Manage daily plate production schedule to satisfy flexo and litho daily printing requirements without supervision.
- During vacation and periods of heavy workloads, perform backup duties within the Graphics Department, such as reviewing Bill of Materials (BOMs) and setting up new items.
- Coordinate flexo plate orders and deliveries. Verify delivery and receipt of plate shipments.
- Verify shop order accuracy of graphics, ink, and plate information.
- Maintain and purge completed litho shop orders from data base.
- Review flexo and litho schedules daily to identify new jobs and ensure files, proofs and plates are available. Assist in Shop Order and Print Schedule coordination.
- Prepare litho coating plates for press and coordinate orders, deliveries, and inventory of coating sleeves.
- Perform litho plate material inventory.
- Assist graphics, plate, and printing groups to trouble shoot and resolve issues related to printing and prepress.
- Manage color standards and printing plate delivery and removal to and from the printing production areas.
- Active participation on facility safety teams including conducting routine safety and integrated audits
- Actively participate in continuous improvement teams within the graphics and printing department, as well as throughout the entire plant.
- Maintain organization and housekeeping of the entire work area including: production and cleaning logs, materials storage, and plate storage.
- Monitor artwork for inactivity or updates. Obsolete standards as necessary. Update appropriate databases accordingly.
- Assist Graphics in coordinating drawdown requests and preparation with the centralized graphics group and onsite ink personnel.
- Assist with SPA/GPA workflow, documentation, and standard preparation.
- Assist production in conducting press approvals. Work with Graphics & press operators to achieve color at press.
- Support customer sample requests by ensuring samples are saved, retrieved, reviewed, and shipped as needed.

Job Qualifications
Required
- Flexographic digital plate making and mounting.
- Lithographic digital plate making.
- Macintosh computer and operating systems.
- CTP imaging equipment and software application.
- Operation and maintenance of plate processing equipment.
- Detail orientated and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work with Filemaker and Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with Illustrator and Photoshop beneficial.
- Knowledge of barcodes and related software beneficial. Knowledge of a Manufacturing Computer System (BPCS), PI, HALO or POKA beneficial.
- Understanding of the flexographic and lithographic printing processes.
- Minimum high school diploma or GED.
- Establish daily priorities ensuring that printing operations are supported, and production schedules are maintained.
- Proactively address issues that could potentially impact operations and initiate corrective actions.
- Recognize areas of concern or problems and identify improvement steps.
Preferred
- Preferred 2 years prepress graphics education or training program.
Environmental
- Walks 20%; stands 20%; sits 30%; bends and stoops 20%.
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. repeatedly when handling plates and other materials
- Reads small positive and reverse plate numbers and type (30%-60%).
- Use fingers, hands, wrists (60%-100%).
Salaried Non-Exempt: $48,000 - $58,000+ DOE
