PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Practicum Supervisor is responsible for the oversight, development, and clinical supervision of practicum students within the mental health department. This role ensures all supervision, training, and documentation practices meet LA County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH), Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), and agency requirements, while cultivating a learning environment that promotes professional development and clinical excellence.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Support interns in developing clinical competencies in diagnosis, treatment planning, case formulation, and evidence-based interventions.
- Collaborate with academic institutions to develop and maintain strong working relationships to establish field placement agreements, recruit high quality practicum students, and create an effective working relationship to ensure a high quality practicum experience.
- Train supervisees on DMH standards, Medi-Cal documentation, and ethical clinical practice
- Monitor supervisee caseloads to ensure appropriate service delivery and productivity standards.
- Provide weekly individual, triadic, and/or group clinical supervision to assigned practicum students in compliance with BBS, LACDMH, and university guidelines.
- Review and co-sign documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and assessments to ensure quality and DMH compliance.
- Track and verify intern clinical hours for board submission and agency records.
- Coordinate with Human Resources, Quality Assurance, and Clinical Leadership to support onboarding, ongoing development, and performance management of practice students.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for practicum-related school communications, evaluations, and partnership needs.
- Participate in agency-wide Continuous Quality Improvement activities, supervision meetings, and compliance audits as needed.
- Support practicum students' transitions and licensure preparation, promoting long-term retention, and development of high-quality clinical staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Range: $85, 000 to $95,000 (Exempt)
Requirements
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Master's degree in social work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field.
- Active California licensure (LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC) is required.
- Must be eligible to provide clinical supervision per BBS regulations (minimum of two years post-licensure).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a DMH-contracted mental health setting.
- Previous experience supervising clinical student interns and trainees preferred.
- Strong knowledge of LACDMH documentation standards, Medi-Cal billing requirements, and compliance guidelines.
COMPUTER / OFFICE SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, Windows OS, server and network management tools.
- Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
PHYSICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to commute to various agency sites and provide field-based supervision, if needed.
Ability to sit for extended periods during supervision and documentation review.
CLEARANCES REQUIRED:
