Job Summary:

The Power Systems Modeling Senior Manager will serve as a subject matter expert in transmission dynamics and interconnection modeling, providing cross-functional engineering support across Transmission, Project Execution, Operations, and Regulatory Compliance. This role is part of the Transmission Network Analytics team, with a primary focus on developing, validating, and maintaining power flow and dynamics models for Leeward’s renewable energy portfolio in software platforms such as PSCAD, PSS®E, PSLF, and TARA.

The position is responsible for advancing in-house expertise in inverter-based resource (IBR) dynamics modeling, producing and updating interconnection application, issued for construction, as-built and compliance models, and ensuring timely and accurate model submittals in alignment with FERC, NERC, ISO, and utility requirements. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong communication skills, working collaboratively across teams to influence project siting, interconnection strategy, compliance, and operational reliability.

This position requires strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, balances shifting priorities with attention to detail, and brings the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear direction for both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform steady-state, dynamic, transient stability, and electromagnetic transient studies using TARA, PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, and related tools.

  • Develop, validate, and maintain electrical models for utility-scale renewable projects, ensuring alignment with actual plant configurations.

  • Duplicate and shadow ISO/RTO/TO interconnection studies to validate assumptions, identify risks, and inform stay/withdrawal or capacity reduction decisions.

  • Prepare and submit NERC-compliance models and reports (e.g., MOD-025/026/027/032, PRC-024/029) on schedule.

  • Benchmark and validate inverter-based resource models against manufacturer test data and field measurements.

  • Provide timely and accurate model submittals required by utilities, ISOs, and regulators.

  • Represent Leeward in utility, ISO, and regulatory forums related to dynamics modeling, interconnection, and renewable integration.

  • Participate in and influence stakeholder processes on evolving standards for IBR performance and grid stability.

  • Support Government Affairs in shaping renewable policy related to interconnection and grid integration.

  • Review interconnection and transmission studies for impacts on project cost, schedule, and operations.

  • Support project developers in renewable site selection and alternatives analysis using transmission analytics.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in transmission planning, dynamics, or interconnection engineering or 4+ years dedicated direct experience with modeling power plant controllers

  • Direct experience with TARA, PSS®E, PSLF, and PSCAD required/preferred.

  • Experience building and maintaining models for renewable energy projects highly valued.

  • Advanced knowledge of modeling IBRs, power plant controllers, wind-turbines, reactive power compensation and BESS systems.

  • Proficiency with PSCAD for transient stability and EMT simulations (training available if needed).

  • Familiarity with PowerWorld, TSAT, ASPEN, or similar tools is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards (MOD-025/026/027/032, PRC-024/029), ISO/RTO tariffs, IEEE 2800, and large generation interconnection processes.

  • Ability to interpret inverter and power plant controller settings, and field tests, translating into accurate model packages.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field. Graduate degree preferred.

Physical Demands:
  • This position will travel 20% of time
  • Position will require sitting for long periods of time as well as occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
