Job Description

Renesas is seeking a highly skilled Power Supply Field Applications Engineer to validate next‑generation digital multiphase power solutions used by major datacenter and AI customers.
This is a critical, customer-facing technical role that ensures Renesas delivers world‑class power integrity, robustness, and performance for the industry’s most demanding computing platforms.

The ideal candidate brings strong hands‑on experience in multiphase buck convertersVR (voltage regulator) validation, and lab-based characterization of high‑current power stages used in server and AI hardware platforms.  Renesas provides comprehensive training on our digital multiphase power solutions, ensuring new hire engineers quickly become experts in our architectures, tools, and validation methodologies.

Responsibilities:

Power Supply & VR Validation

  • Execute comprehensive validation of Renesas multiphase power solutions for AI, server and datacenter platforms.
  • Perform bench-level electrical testing, including load/line transient response, sequencing, fault response, efficiency characterization, telemetry verification, and protection features.
  • Develop and execute test plans, corner-case validation matrices, and automated test flows, ensuring complete coverage of all operating modes.
  • Validate compliance with customer VR and power delivery specifications (Intel VR13/14/VRM specs, AMD SVIx, custom AI platform specs).

System-Level Power Integration

  • Validate power integration on customer boards, including bring-up, debug, power sequencing, and interaction with SoC/GPU/ASIC power domains.
  • Characterize performance impacts related to inductors, MOSFETs, power stages, and PDN (power distribution network).
  • Support customer engineering teams during bring-up and platform validation.

Debug & Root Cause Analysis

  • Diagnose issues using oscilloscopes, network analyzers, electronic loads, and automated instrumentation.
  • Work with design, systems, and field teams to root-cause issues and propose actionable fixes.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Generate detailed validation reports capturing schematic/layout review, rework instructions, test methodologies, controller configuration files, waveforms, and results.
  • Partner with global design, system validation, and field application engineering teams to support key datacenter accounts.
  • Contribute to IP generation, validation methodologies, and continuous improvement of Renesas validation infrastructure.
  • Thrive in a fast‑paced environment with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Education: BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (or related).
  • Experience: 3–7+ years in power electronics, power supply validation, or VRM/system power engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience with multiphase buck converters, digital VR controllers, and high-current power delivery.
  • Proficiency with lab instruments: oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, thermal chambers.
  • Experience performing system-level power validation on complex boards (server, GPU, AI accelerators, high-power ASIC platforms).
  • Firm knowledge of control loop theory, stability analysis, transient response, and power stage behavior.
  • Experience writing automation scripts (Python preferred) for test execution or data analysis.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience validating power solutions for Intel/AMD CPUsGPU/AI accelerators, or hyperscale datacenter platforms.
  • Familiarity with VR telemetry standards (PMBus, AVS Bus, etc).
  • Experience with PDN modeling, SPICE simulation, or system-level SI/PI analysis.
  • Hands-on debug experience with customer bring-up and on-site validation support.

This is a full time-onsite position in San Jose, CA
