Job Responsibilities: What you will do

This position reports directly to the Director of Logistics Trailer Management and is responsible for leading the Power Only Risk function. Depending on operational volume, this role will supervise one or more Power Only Risk Specialists. Key responsibilities include oversight of Power Only incident management, claims support, trailer tracking and recovery initiatives, and cross-functional escalation management.

The successful candidate will be a results-driven leader with exceptional organizational, communication, and decision-making skills, capable of influencing stakeholders and driving operational excellence while serving as a hands-on contributor when needed. This role requires the ability to make sound business decisions in complex situations where clear-cut solutions may not exist. Strong judgment, critical thinking, and risk assessment skills are essential, as the position regularly handles escalated incidents involving potential liability, financial exposure, asset recovery, and operational risk. The individual must be able to effectively evaluate competing priorities, mitigate risk, and make timely decisions that protect the interests of the company, its assets, customers, and shareholders while maintaining positive stakeholder relationships.

  • Leads the management and resolution of all escalated Power Only (PO) Risk incidents involving third-party carriers, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation and timely resolution.
  • Assists Trailer Asset Managers, Power Only leadership, and Operations teams in trailer tracking, asset recovery efforts, and escalated incident management.
  • Leads investigations involving suspected theft, unauthorized possession, and misappropriation of company trailer assets. Coordinates with Security, Legal, Operations, carriers, and law enforcement agencies as necessary to facilitate timely asset recovery, minimize financial exposure, and pursue recovery of costs associated with damages, recovery efforts, downtime, and other incident-related expenses.
  • Assesses operational, financial, and liability risks associated with trailer incidents and provides timely communication and recommendations to leadership.
  • Develops and delivers weekly reporting on trailer-related incidents, including accidents, claims, trailer misuse, recovery efforts, damages, and third-party escalations.
  • Maintains ownership of incident tracking, claim resolution support, trailer damage reporting, recovery expenditures, and misuse fee allocation reporting across operational groups.
  • Partners with Safety, Claims, Operations, Legal, Security, and other cross-functional stakeholders to investigate incidents and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Conducts accident reviews and preliminary liability assessments, coordinating with Safety and Risk teams to obtain required documentation and support investigation efforts.
  • Performs comprehensive carrier and incident research using internal systems, including AS400, Tableau, Mcleod/TMS platforms, and trailer tracking technologies, as well as external resources such as FMCSA SAFER, Highway, and other industry tools.
  • Investigates trailer possession disputes and unidentified trailer locations, collaborating with Security and external agencies when appropriate to determine whether incidents involve misuse, unauthorized possession, theft, or other criminal activity.
  • Recommends and initiates enforcement actions for repeat offenders, including FreightGuard reporting and coordination with Legal regarding cease-and-desist communications when necessary.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve reporting capabilities, technology utilization, incident visibility, and process efficiencies across the Power Only Risk program.
  • Develops, coaches, and oversees Power Only Risk Specialists and support staff, providing direction, performance feedback, and ongoing professional development.
  • Designs and delivers training to Operations, Trailer Management on best practices related to carrier management, incident prevention, trailer tracking, asset protection, recovery processes, and misuse mitigation.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for Power Only risk management and provides guidance on complex, high-risk situations requiring independent judgment and decision-making.

Qualifications: What you need to bring

  • Associate degree required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in transportation, logistics, risk management, asset management, safety, claims, investigations, or a related field.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex situations, assess risk, and make sound business decisions.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.

  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when managing escalated incidents, liability concerns, and asset recovery efforts.
  • Ability to influence outcomes and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Safety, Security, Legal, Risk Management, and third-party carriers.
  • Proficient in data analysis, reporting, and investigative research utilizing transportation management systems, reporting tools, and third-party carrier databases.
