The Role
The Power Electronic Test Engineer will design and develop test circuits, execute experiments, troubleshoot issues, and document results for high-voltage component testing.
Summary Generated by Built In
Diamond Foundry Inc. is solving the thermal limitation at the foundation of today's most exciting tech industries -- AI & cloud compute, electric-car power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless. We have managed to produce the world's first single-crystal diamond wafers and are now on a mission to put a diamond behind every chip. We are the rare unicorn that has grown fast and profitably. We received $515m in funding and are executing a multi-$B expansion plan for one of the greenest forms of tech manufacturing: converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy.

Diamond Foundry is seeking a Power Electronics Test Engineer to join our growing team. As a Power Electronic Test Engineer, you will be the technical owner for all high-voltage component and system-level testing, driving continuous improvement for both characterization and production. You will lead the design of test circuits, analyze data, and manage the development and maintenance of test programs and hardware. This role requires a hands-on approach and a problem-solving mindset, as well as excellent communication skills to collaborate with multiple teams and customers.

This position will work out of our San Jose location.

Responsibilities

  • OSAT & Design Integration: Collaborate with OSATs on assembly and package design for component- and system-level products, while ensuring all designs satisfy datasheet specifications, DFT (Design for Test), and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) requirements.
  • Test System Development: Co-lead the design and development of bench-level characterization systems in partnership with Test Engineering, including troubleshooting and resolving engineering or production issues related to devices, test hardware, and test software.
  • Experimental Analysis: Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOE), analyze complex results, and perform in-depth yield and failure analysis for both initial engineering builds and high-volume production to generate comprehensive technical reports.
  • Reliability & Qualification: Design, execute, and manage all reliability testing initiatives, coordinating between in-house laboratories and external qualification partners to ensure product integrity.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Own the end-to-end product development timeline and milestones, managing documentation, cost targets, and the successful release to production for all hardware and software components.

Qualifications

  • Core Education & Experience: BSEE or MSEE with 5+ years in product development, possessing deep knowledge of power electronics, analog/mixed-signal circuits, and power module datasheets (hands-on, detail-oriented, methodical problem solver—desired).
  • Device Expertise & Hardware Skills: Hands-on experience testing power MOSFETs, SiC, and GaN devices using high-voltage test systems (e.g., Eagles, Chroma) and Keysight 1506 or Keithley parametric test systems (comfort in fast-paced, evolving environments—desired).
  • Automation & Engineering Tools: High proficiency in bench automation (NI TestStand, LabVIEW, Python, or C/C++) and Altium Designer for schematic/PCB layout, coupled with required Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience (strong cross-functional communication—desired).
  • Reliability & Compliance: Proven experience in high-power reliability testing and automotive qualification standards like VDA, IATF, and AEC-Q (ability to interface directly with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing partners—desired).
  • Data Analysis & Quality: Mastery of large-scale data analysis, including Pareto, Cpk, and test limit definition, with preferred experience in JMP to ensure product quality and yield optimization (customer-focused engineering approach—desired).
