PostgreSQL Tech Lead (Remote)

This role is pivotal in maintaining the high technical standards of Percona’s PostgreSQL products and services. You'll enhance Percona's reputation within the PostgreSQL ecosystem, ensuring we remain leaders in the field.

This is a hands-on technical role with a strong emphasis on PostgreSQL expertise and thought leadership. You'll create valuable technical content for customers and the wider community, aligning with Percona's strategic focus on Kubernetes and related technologies, guided by the Marketing team.

You'll collaborate closely with Service Delivery as an escalation point for complex PostgreSQL support tickets and other technical requests. Additionally, you'll influence Percona's product strategy by providing feedback to the Engineering team.

Working collaboratively with Sales, Marketing, Global Services, Customer Success, and Engineering teams, you'll contribute significantly to Percona’s PostgreSQL goals. This dynamic role offers the chance to impact product strategy and direction from both deliverability and functionality perspectives. The role requires flexible hours across the Americas and European time zones.

What You Will Do:

• Content Creation: Develop technical content (blogs, white papers, knowledge base articles, webinars, training, conference talks) for the community and Percona subscribers.

• Technical Escalation: Act as a technical escalation point for Global Services, managing complex support tickets to resolution.

• Service Improvement: Enhance Percona's support and service delivery quality by participating in ticket reviews and identifying improvement areas related to new PostgreSQL ecosystem software.

• Managed Services: Contribute to the PostgreSQL Managed Services solution by defining and implementing best practices for efficiency and continual improvement.

• Consulting: Deliver professional services and consulting engagements for strategic or complex projects.

• Product Strategy: Provide feedback and guidance on Percona’s PostgreSQL product strategy and extensions, contributing to functional specifications for product enhancements, changes, or new software.

• Industry Awareness: Stay current with industry developments and competitor activities.

• Trend Identification: Research industry events, publications, and announcements to identify emerging trends.

• Sales Support: Assist the Percona field sales team with strategic, PostgreSQL-related opportunities.

• Public Speaking: Present at key conferences throughout the year.

• Community Building: Lead, build, and participate in a collaborative community of PostgreSQL experts within Percona.

Your Experience:

• Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL and the extensions that Percona supports

• Advanced Kubernetes skills.

• Proven technical support experience, including adherence to SLAs.

• Experience communicating with management at customers and partners in escalation management.

• Fluent written and spoken English communication skills.

• Professional, customer service-oriented attitude.

• Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial approach.

• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally under pressure.

• Availability for a 24x7 on-call roster for escalations.

• Strong mentoring and coaching skills.

• Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

• Willingness to travel internationally and speak at conferences.

What Will Make You Stand Out:

• Familiarity with other open source databases (MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB).

• Familiarity with Percona Monitoring and Management software.

• Familiarity with Percona Everest software.

• Expertise with DBaaS environments (Amazon RDS or Aurora for PostgreSQL).

• Software development experience and source-level familiarity with PostgreSQL.
