In addition, they are using their expertise in interdisciplinary research centers across the university.

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join their team.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing support by working on research projects in AI safety and robotics, contributing across the full research lifecycle: algorithm and system design, code development, experimental validation, and scientific writing.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct original research in AI safety and autonomous robotics, including algorithm design, system development, and experimental validation.
  • Author and contribute to research proposals, technical reports, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Present research progress to sponsors and stakeholders on a regular cadence; maintain prompt and proactive communication with the PI.
  • Develop project concepts and write proposals for research projects and independent grant applications; mentor graduate and undergraduate students on research methods, code development, publish papers, and scientific communication.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Experience with robot systems and algorithms design and development and experimental validations.
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
