Postdoctoral Associate
Trowbridge Lab
Bar Harbor, ME

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in Dr. Jennifer Trowbridge’s laboratory at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. The Trowbridge lab is dedicated to uncovering the fundamental mechanisms that govern hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) biology across three interconnected areas:

  • HSC aging – both the cell-intrinsic changes that accumulate over a lifetime and alterations that occur in the bone marrow microenvironment where these cells reside
  • Clonal hematopoiesis – understanding why somatic mutations in epigenetic regulatory genes (e.g., DNMT3A, TET2, ASXL1) are selectively expanded in HSCs with aging, and how they modify risk of aging-associated diseases
  • Hematologic malignancies – the mechanisms by which clonal hematopoiesis progresses to myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML)

Our long-term goal is to identify intervention strategies that extend “healthspan” of blood stem cells – preserving their regenerative capacity into older age and reducing the risk of blood cancers.  The multi-disciplinary nature of our work is highlighted our recent publications in Nature Communications (Young et al., 2025) and Nature (Hosseini et al., 2025) identifying elevated mitochondrial metabolism as a selective dependency of CH-mutant HSCs.

The Trowbridge lab offers a highly collaborative environment with strong national and international collaborations. Past and current trainees have been extremely successful in obtaining competitive grant funding and fellowships, and have gone on to independent positions in both academia and industry.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be able to plan, develop, execute, and analyze an independent research project within one or more of the lab’s focus areas. Additional responsibilities include preparing manuscripts, fellowship applications, and conference presentations, mentoring junior lab members and contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Required Qualifications

  • M.D. or Ph.D. in biological or related sciences
  • Minimum of one first-author publication from graduate work
  • Strong foundational training in molecular and cell biology
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or training in any of the following areas:

  • Hematopoiesis, stem cell biology, aging, or immunology
  • Epigenetics or chromatin biology
  • Mouse HSC biology-related experimental techniques
  • CRISPR-based approaches including gene editing in primary cells, sgRNA design, lentiviral delivery
  • Computational biology/bioinformatics

How to Apply

A complete application must include a cover letter describing past research accomplishments, current research interests, and career aspirations; a current CV; and the names and contact information of three references.
