Department Overview

The Wealth Investment Office (WIO) is TD Wealth’s centre of excellence for investment management strategy. We partner with advisors and portfolio managers across Wealth Management, including Financial Planning and Private Wealth Management, to deliver the tools, insights, and expertise needed to build consistent, scalable, and client-focused portfolio solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-impact team at the centre of TD Wealth’s investment advice model, where you will help shape best practices and influence portfolio outcomes across the business.

Position Overview

The Portfolio Management Consultant plays a key role in advancing portfolio construction excellence across TD Wealth. Working closely with partners across WIO, TD Asset Management, Practice Management, Product, and Private Wealth Management, this role helps Financial Planners adopt disciplined, process-driven investment practices. The successful candidate will provide coaching and consultation on portfolio construction, leverage managed solution, model portfolio development, portfolio analysis, and transition planning toward scalable managed solutions.

Position Summary

In this role, you will:

  • Build a strong understanding of the managed investment product spectrum.

  • Develop deep knowledge of the firm’s fee-based and managed account platforms, including recommended products and portfolio solutions.

  • Support WIO’s delivery of managed investment solutions across TD Wealth’s Canadian advice channels.

  • Provide portfolio construction guidance for advisors requiring customized solutions, including support with proposals and portfolio reviews.

  • Interpret managed product research from TD’s internal investment manager research team.

  • Serve as a first point of contact for Financial Planners' inquiries related to managed investments, portfolio construction, and investment guidance.

  • Lead book review activities for the Financial Planning channel.  Analyze advisor books of business, including holdings and portfolio construction techniques, to identify coaching opportunities and support transition to scalable portfolio solutions.

  • Help Financial Planners align their investment philosophy, value proposition, and discovery process with a documented and repeatable portfolio construction methodology.

  • Develop model portfolios for a range of client risk profiles, needs, and account sizes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide holistic professional investment management consultation and coach advisors on professional portfolio construction practices.

  • Develop deep expertise in TD Wealth’s fee-based and managed account platforms, recommended products, and portfolio solutions.

  • Prepare written reports and commentary for portfolio review and market-related publications.

  • Create presentations leveraging TD Wealth publications and industry trend.

  • Deliver training sessions and branch presentations.

  • Support broader WIO initiatives, including those outside the managed investments space.

  • Build a holistic view of advisor books of business to assess holdings, asset allocation, and portfolio construction practices.

  • Coach advisors to:

    • Understand TD Wealth’s fee-based and managed account platforms, pricing approaches, and supporting technologies.

    • Integrate a clear investment philosophy into their client value proposition.

    • Adopt managed solution and model-based solution sets across a broader portion of their book of business.

Education and Accreditations

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

  • Completion of, or progress toward, the CFA designation is preferred; CFA Level II completed is an asset.

  • Relevant investment industry designation such as CFA, CFP, or CIM.

Other Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services.

  • Strong knowledge of financial markets.

  • Strong understanding of managed products, including mutual funds, ETFs, and SMAs.

  • Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

  • Strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across TD Wealth.

  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office; advanced PowerPoint skills are essential. Ability to incorporate AI in daily routine is a plus.

  • Analytical and computational skills are an asset, including familiarity with VBA, Python, or basic data management tools. Knowledge of Bloomberg and Morningstar is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
