JOB SUMMARY

The Polysomnographic Technologist is responsible for preparing, administering, and collecting data that are part of research and clinical duties. Also responsible for technical aspects of laboratory functioning, including maintenance and operation of polygraphs, computers, and other physiological monitoring instruments.  

Other research-related duties include protocol compliance related to PSG data, psychometric assessments, vital signs, venipuncture, phlebotomy processing, ECG, and safety assessments.                   

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate all clinical/research charts before data collection and verifie the accuracy of recording procedures.
  • Support in the administration of psychometric assessments
  • Tabulates data collected from standardized screening and psychometric instruments.
  • Enters subject information into one or more databases.
  • Preparation of information and materials for research subjects.
  • Assists with research subject visits.  
  • Direct contact with subjects includes vital sign assessment, ECG assessment, subject belonging searches (i.e., inspecting clothing for contraband), and ensuring the completeness and integrity of source documents.
  • Preparation for laboratory visits (e.g., set-up carts, lab supplies, equipment related to study protocol).
  • Reads and understands study protocols.
  • All work is done following Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), Corporate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and principles outlined in the CFR 21 and ICH guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The hourly rate for this position is $45/hr.   Final compensation is based on skills, experience, location, and overall expertise.  

Requirements

  • The position requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent, but individuals with college degrees or advanced degrees are preferred.
  • Must have NJS Polysomnographic Technologist license, RPSGT credential from the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists (BRPT), and two (2) years of experience in a sleep disorder enter or laboratory as a Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent. NJS Respiratory Therapy Technician (RRT) or Respiratory Therapist (RT) and RPSGT credential are also accepted plus two (2) years of experience in a sleep disorder enter or laboratory are also accepted.
  • Must be BCLS certified.
  • Must maintain his/her license and certification active, including completing continuing education credits annually.
  • Must possess excellent technical and good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to provide accurate documentation for the produced work.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • College degree or advanced degree
  • NJS Polysomnographic Technologist license or NJS RRT/RT
  • RPSGT credential from BRPT
  • Two (2) years experience in a sleep disorder center or laboratory as a Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent
  • BCLS certification
  • Maintain active license and certification, including annual continuing education
  • Excellent technical skills and good interpersonal skills
  • Accurate documentation of produced work
