This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You will be based in our office in London. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

This will be a 1 year contract initially with the possibility of extension.

About the Program:

The High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People (HAC) is an intergovernmental group of more than 120 countries—co-chaired by Nigeria and France championing a global deal for nature and people with the central goal of protecting at least 30 percent of the world’s land and ocean area by 2030. The 30x30 target is a global target which aims to halt the accelerating loss of species and protect vital ecosystems that are the source of our economic security.

Job Highlight:

As the Political Mobilization Officer, you will support Secretariat’s effort on the Political mobilization efforts and strategy. You will contribute to a purpose-oriented organization and benefit from exchanging with governments and other stakeholders including NGOs, UN agencies, philanthropic organizations and others who are leading biodiversity conservation programs around the world. Within a small-team setting you will actively participate in strengthening the HAC’s role as a strong convening power to maintain international political momentum on 30x30. Employed by the World Resources Institute (WRI), you will be based in London, UK. The HAC Secretariat is co-hosted by WRI and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). You will report to the Director, High Ambition Coalition for Nature & People Secretariat with a dotted line to the Senior Program Officer for Political Mobilization. 

What you will do:

Contribute to the HAC for Nature & People political mobilization strategy (30%)

  • Assist the Political Mobilization Team on engaging with the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People's International Steering Committee (ISC) to support the drafting of strategic documents for 2027 including the yearly work plan
  • Support the Secretariat's outreach and bilateral engagement activities when necessary
  • Updating and enhancing the political mobilization strategy in close coordination with the Senior Program officer for Political Mobilization
  • Engage with partners and supporters
  • Participate in strategic discussions and planning
  • Contribute to daily operations and implementation of HAC activities.

Strengthen HAC for N&P’s country engagement (25%)

  • Support the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People's preparation and participation to international events
  • Co-leading country engagement especially with targeted regions
  • Organize regional meetings, bilaterals and information sessions on the HAC for N&P

Support the HAC for N&P’s communications efforts (25%)

  • Lead the communication coordination of the HAC for N&P team
  • Support the development of communications assets in collaboration with WRI Communications Team
  • Gather relevant information through HAC member engagement to feed the HAC for N&P communications
  • Support social media planning

Co-lead the organization of the Global 30x30 Summit (20%)

  • Work closely with the Sr. Program Officer to develop, deliver the Summit and meet deadlines
  • Maintain a strong engagement with the HAC for N&P members especially ISC members in planning and delivering the Summit
  • Handle the logistics involved with the organization of the Summit.

What you will need:

  • Education: You have a completed Bachelor’s degree in international relations, diplomacy or a degree in natural sciences, political science, or socio-economic sciences
  • Experience: You have experience working with financial institutions
  • Organizational and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team, and with people from various countries and backgrounds
  • Experience managing competing priorities
  • Experience coordinating high level events with partners
  • Experience managing relationships with and between mid-level managers from government agencies and non-governmental organizations
  • Experience with high-level communications (verbal, written, public) to different audiences
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 Suite and SharePoint
  • Languages: You have written and verbal fluency in English, with additional common languages (e.g. Spanish, French) a plus
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization. 

Potential Salary:

£45,000 - £56,000

Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
