Summary 

Manages the planning, estimating, permitting, scheduling, risk analysis, material procurement, agreements for land, engineering services, pipeline interconnects and reimbursements, prepares projects for bid process and assist with contractor selection, monitors field construction, and in-service facilitation and project close-out, progress and financial monitoring and additional project management of extraordinary gas transmission and distribution facilities and high profile projects requiring specialized project management support and oversight. Manages projects in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, ensuring safe, reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner. Collaborates and strategizes with peers within NiSource companies and in industry to ensure cost effective project management. Supports Engineering, New Business, and Sales & Services in cost estimating potential projects. Supports Local Operations through communications and commitment by applying input into projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

Establishes effective scope, schedule, and cost baselines and change management to measure progress against plans and identify when corrective actions are needed 

Safe/efficient high-quality construction work that complies with policies, practices, and standards 

Collaboration between project managers, project specialists, and contract construction inspectors 

Provides construction support for all internal/external customers 

Completes construction projects which meet customer expectations and budget requirements 

Promotes relationships with external municipalities and local authorities 

Timely and accurate invoice payments 

Effective team relationships throughout field and State staff functions 

Project success is based on the ability to complete all projects in a safe, reliable manner, within 5% of the cost estimate, on time and with no significant regulatory notices, violations, or citations 

Monitors and communicates progress of projects related to capital spends and projected spends, project status updates, inspector schedules, and land services requirements

Required Qualifications for Position 

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management, or other related field of study 

5+ years’ experience managing construction related projects 

3+ years’ experience working with pipeline construction contractors 

3+ years’ experience working with project budgets 

Valid Driver’s License 

Travel Percentage: 30 - 40% 

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position 

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Knowledge of gas system design and operations including gas flow, construction, contracts, and emergency response. 

Knowledge of local, state, and federal operating codes and construction codes 

Proficiency with personal computers, construction scheduling software, Microsoft Excel, Power Point Presentations, and other computer software related to pipeline construction project management 

Working knowledge of operations support systems, i.e. WMS, etc.

 Required Qualifications for Position

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical plus 6 years technical experience or 9 years project/architectural-engineering/technical experience or Project Manager plus 2 years’ experience as a PM
  • Expand the project management knowledge base in project management methodology, processes, tools, techniques, and software; increasing personal maturity in project management (Level 3 maturity)
  • Expanded comprehension in project management guidelines, standard, processes, and job aids
  • Expanded proficiency in project management information systems (PMIS) utilization and integration; scheduling software, risk management software, cost management software, and performance metrics (and dashboards) and tool integration of project controls information
  • Applies an increasing proficiency in leadership, management, organizational theory, personal, interpersonal skills in a "situational leadership" application. Manages project stakeholders using cognitive ability, personal effectiveness, innovation, value based decision-making, integrated communication (soft and hard skills); conflict resolution, and team work
  • Capability to efficiently perform duties under stringent deadlines, schedules, and conditions.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule. 
  • Must be able to work in areas of high noise, dust, extreme temperatures, confined spaces and chemical hazards.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Position may require up to 50% travel.
  • All successful applicants will be required to pass the PMP PMI Project Management certification within either one year of their hire date or one year after the employee meets the necessary requirements to qualify for the examination.

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • PMP PMI Project Management Certification; experience in large industrial Capital Project environments.

$91,000.00 - $160,500.00
