Description:

The Athletics are currently seeking a Player Learning & Programs Coordinator. This position will collaborate with Baseball Operations, Player Development, and external vendors to promote the professional development of players through educational and cultural initiatives. The ideal candidate will take charge of coordinating and overseeing the implementation of educational programs in various locations, while also creating educational opportunities for international players to gain essential life skills. Furthermore, this position is responsible for providing comprehensive support to minor league players, guiding them in matters concerning personal development, acclimation to life in the United States, and other relevant areas, while also developing initiatives to foster player growth on and off the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Baseball Operations, Player Development, and external vendors regarding educational and cultural initiatives to promote the professional development of players.
  • Coordinate logistics and oversee the implementation of educational and English development programs at the Arizona complex, and all minor league affiliates, while collaborating with the Dominican Academy.
  • Create and host educational opportunities for international players, focusing on cultural differences and necessary life skills (e.g., housing, travel, paperwork, taxes, banking, etc.).
  • Facilitate appointments for newly arrived international players, including but not limited to the social security office, opening bank accounts, doctor's appointments, DMV visits, and more.
  • Liaise with appropriate department staff as needed, such as Minor League Operations, Dominican Operations, Medical, Finance, and People Operations.
  • Assist active and former players with education and career opportunities during and after their baseball careers.
  • Support Player Development staff with on-field duties, including translation/interpretation and player education.
  • Create a comprehensive support system for minor league players, offering guidance and assistance in matters concerning their wellbeing, professional relationships, financial wellness, and other relevant areas.
  • Provide educational support and mentorship for players participating in high school programs, such as Dawere and Cenapec.
  • Coordinate community service opportunities for players and staff.
  • Create and implement new initiatives that promote player growth both on and off the field.
  • Assist in immigration processes for international personnel including visa petitions, passport renewals, and support changes in visa statuses throughout the year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Bilingual English and Spanish (spoken and written)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record 
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Strong organizational planning, and communication skills  with the ability to build trust and relationships with players
  • Understanding of the unique needs of international players transitioning to and living in the United States
  • Substantive experience in managing confidential information with a high degree of discretion and excellent judgment
  • Willing and able to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends and holidays dependent on baseball schedules
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally to minor league affiliates, Dominican Academy, and other locations as needed
  • Experience providing professional training in areas related to learning, educational or organizational development is preferred
  • Experience working within professional baseball is preferred
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing educational resources is preferred
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Latin America is preferred
  • Working knowledge of immigration processes, including visas, passport renewals and related documentation
