As a Robotics Software Engineer, you will work with a team of talented software developers to expand and mature a kitchen automation system and cloud-connected infrastructure. You will perform hard-core coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the development process. You will use your expertise in software engineering to own the design, prototype, and commercialization of core software. You will collaborate closely with robotics specialists in controls, machine learning, and computer vision.
What You’ll Do- Code, debug, test and troubleshoot software throughout the development process.
- Develop sophisticated state machines that efficiently manage and optimize various cooking
workflows. - Engineer streamlined, user-friendly procedures for robotic system installations ensuring a smooth
user experience. - Design and implement robust monitoring solutions to continuously track and ensure the health of
our robotic systems in various environments. - Use best engineering judgment to iterate on code and refactoring repeatedly to improve our
software generality and quality. - Read our code and documentation to understand our existing architecture and practices.
- Adhere to and help improve our software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
- Take ownership when developing, maintaining, improving, testing and releasing software.
- Create unit tests and system-level tests to verify code functionality.
- Create architectural diagrams that demonstrate flow of data through the system.
- BS or higher in Computer Science (or related field) and 3+ years of professional experience developing robotic systems in production
- Hands-on experience with ROS1 in real-world deployments; ROS2 familiarity is a plus but not required
- Strong Python programming skills with a track record of backend or platform software development
- Ability to read and understand C++ code, especially in the context of ROS nodes (deep C++ development is not required)
- Familiarity with system software, state machines, network stacks, and SQL databases
- Proficiency in Linux, Docker, and Git-based development environments
- Self-motivated, responsible, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams including motion control, vision, and hardware
- Must be available for at least 4 hours of overlap with Pacific Time (PT) — LATAM candidates welcome
- Experience with cloud and edge computing
- Experience developing platforms that serve multiple robotic products
- Knowledge of control algorithms such as MPC or PID (a nice-to-have, not required)
