The Engineering Group Manager is a senior management level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to drive a variety of engineering activities including the design, acquisition and deployment of hardware, software and network infrastructure in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to lead efforts to ensure quality standards are being met within existing and planned framework.

DRIFT (Data, Reliability, Intelligence & Framework Technology) is an organization within CTI's IDEAS (Inventory, Data & Enterprise Automation Services) program — the enterprise engine for technology data intelligence. Our mission: deliver a trusted, high-quality technology data estate that powers AI-driven insights, enables automated vulnerability remediation, and supports resilient, scalable platform operations across Citi's technology landscape.

As Platform Infrastructure Lead, you are the architect of DRIFT's engine room. You own the core data platform and codebase that every other DRIFT pillar depends on — from AI/ML model inputs to vulnerability tracking pipelines. You will lead a team of data engineers and platform developers, driving data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness across all managed domains. Your work directly enables DRIFT's ability to turn raw technology inventory into actionable intelligence at enterprise scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the goals of functional area are delivered to appropriate Operations & Technology (O&T) organizations
  • Oversee O&T spending to ensure the firm's finances are budgeted and spent according to the Chief Technology officer’s (CTO) technology strategies
  • Manage overall execution of IT strategy and roadmap for the technology area
  • Lead operational readiness and conformance to global operational standards for ongoing operation and support
  • Utilize an in-depth understanding of how engineering integrates within technology and commercial awareness
  • Responsible for training and coaching team members, performance management activities, monitoring quantity and quality of work, and addressing development needs for assigned personnel
  • Make evaluative judgment based on analyzing information in complicated or unique situations; utilizing multiple sources of information
  • Impact engineering through overseeing planning, finances / budget, end results and policy setting
  • Negotiate with senior leaders across functions and with external parties, as required
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in an Engineering role with commensurate experience in people management.
  • Experience working in Financial Services or a large complex and/or global environment
  • Project Management experience
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Comprehensive knowledge of design metrics, analytics tools, benchmarking activities and related reporting to identify best practices
  • Demonstrated analytic/diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and partner with virtual teams
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and take ownership of various parts of a project or initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage to tight deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements
  • Proven track record of operational process change and improvement
Basic Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering or platform engineering roles
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Spark
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL database technologies
  • Experience designing and operating data ingestion and egress pipelines
  • Familiarity with Medallion, Kappa, or Lambda data architecture patterns
  • Experience managing DEV environments and source code repositories (SCM/Git)
  • Strong understanding of data quality principles — completeness, accuracy, timeliness
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of individual contributors
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
Advanced Requirements
  • Deep expertise in Scala and distributed compute frameworks (Apache Spark at scale)
  • Experience with Kafka or equivalent event streaming platforms for real-time data pipelines
  • Demonstrated delivery of enterprise-grade data platforms in a regulated financial services environment
  • Experience partnering with SRE teams on controlled DEV-to-PROD deployment processes
  • Familiarity with PACT data quality frameworks or equivalent governance standards
  • Track record of collaborating with AI/ML teams to ensure data readiness for model consumption
  • Experience integrating with infrastructure automation platforms (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Inventory Orchestration tooling)
  • Knowledge of SBOM generation within CI/CD build pipelines
  • Ability to operate effectively within a matrixed organization, coordinating across Level 6 peer teams including Inventory Orchestration and Observability

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
