Platform Engineering Manager

The Platform Engineering Manager is responsible for design, implementation, and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure (Azure and AWS), CI/CD pipelines, and automation processes. This role requires a deep understand of these technologies as well as extensive experience in each of them. This role is also responsible for leading the implementation and designs of our modern IT infrastructure. You will lead a team who is responsible for the delivery and management of technologies, processes, and integrations to bolster RSM lines of business and their respective portfolios. Communication and professionalism are paramount as you will be representing RSM Technical Services to effectively engage with technical and business leadership as well as external providers of IT services. Your ability to explain solutions and complex issues, while demonstrating the ability to lead and impart knowledge effectively to other team members, is of critical importance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • People Management: Lead and manage the Platform Engineering team by providing guidance, mentorship, and support to team members. This also involves making staffing decisions and creating training and development plans for the team. Ensure resource assignments are appropriately allocated to align skills and capacity to Firm priorities.
     
  • Technical Management: Responsible for customer solution responsiveness and troubleshooting when made aware or alerted to issues affecting infrastructure.  Leads and champions implementation best practices and the automation of repetitive tasks to reduce team toil. Project delivery focused, handling multiple sets of priorities in different functional areas. Reactively and proactively ensures the health of the IT systems supported by their teams. Leads automating and accelerating the testing, release, and deployment cycles of those products through authored scripts for configuration and provisioning. Monitors, scales, and optimizes distributed services in cloud and data center infrastructures to support product needs.
     
  • Develops and implements technical standards, procedures, and techniques for the resolution of Enterprise IT system problems to ensure maximum application availability and performance. Drives new ideas and innovative solutions to resolve problems. Engages with other engineering teams to improve the lifecycle of services on our platforms. Collaborates with other IT and non-IT related professionals such as Developers, DevOps Engineers, Security Engineers, Architects, Project Managers, Business Analysts, and business leaders.
     
  • Available for scheduled and unscheduled weekend/after-hours system maintenance and support. Acts as an escalation option for persons in the on-call rotation.
     
  • Public Cloud strategy development in key functional areas of compute, storage, data protection and automation. Ensuring alignment to business strategy while maintaining compliance, fiscal alignment, and operational excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems,
  • Or equivalent work history/experience
     

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Proven experience as a Platform Engineering Manager or similar role.
  • Extensive experience with Azure and AWS cloud platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in building and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
  • Expertise in automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
     

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and related technologies.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Certification in Azure and/or AWS is a plus.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in the following areas Required:
  • 5+ Managing Public Cloud infrastructure
  • 3+ years Platform Engineering (IaC & CI/CD technologies specifically)
  • Experience managing people, mentoring staff, and providing performance feedback. Monitoring workloads of the teams while meeting stakeholder expectations.

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $107,900 - $184,800

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
