Platform Engineer

Job Description

Platform team is a part of the SUSE IT Platform Engineering department, maintaining the Internal Developer Platform which is available for SUSE teams to deploy and manage their applications. It's a space where anyone can deploy their own virtual machines or containers. The self-service Platform is built primarily with SUSE products (SLE, Rancher, Harvester, Longhorn, Neuvector) and other open source or CNCF tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Cortex, Kubewarden,...) both on-premises (multiple geo locations) and in the cloud. Additionally, the Platform team owns and maintains Cloud Landing Zones (AWS, Azure and GCP), available for internal SUSE teams to deploy the resources they need.

We are looking for an experienced engineer to collaborate on developing new features and maintaining high-quality products.

What you can expect:

  • Translate business needs into technical requirements and solutions.

  • Identify, develop and prioritize services according to business criticality.

  • Research, design, operate and maintain infrastructure services for existing and new business applications and information systems.

  • Work closely with various internal development teams and enable them to consume cloud-based resources.

  • Participate as a member of an IT technical team and may lead a small team of engineers.

  • Implement business or infrastructure applications or services following the best practices, reference architecture and cloud governance.

What we expect from you:

  • Have experience in Linux system administration and Kubernetes.

  • Maintain resources using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm, Salt) and pipelines.

  • Learn new technologies related to Cloud and Platform Engineering.

  • Care for your team and its success.

  • Document your work and maintain it.

  • Work with others to achieve best-in-class solutions.

  • Challenge the status quo to drive outstanding quality.

  • You're open to giving and receiving feedback.

  • You're willing and able to share your knowledge.

  • Exhibit a high level of initiative and integrity.

  • Possess creative ability, consulting skills, leadership qualities, credibility and self-confidence.

  • Have knowledge about cloud-native and twelve-factor patterns.

  • Have experience with writing code (e.g. Go, Python, Ruby, Rust) and databases (SQL-based and NoSQL).

  • Have advanced understanding of modern software development methodologies, tools, testing and Git.

Why working at SUSE is great:

  • 30+ years of experience in open source and Linux.

  • Riding the wave of new trends in technology.

  • Open source is everywhere in our daily job - flexible working time.

  • Customer first policy. We care about our customers and we mean it!

  • Platform Engineering culture. As platform engineers, we collaborate to build and maintain reliable and scalable platforms. We prioritize innovation, automation, and delivering high-quality solutions.

  • Infrastructure as code - we don't trust our memory, we test and then run.

  • Agile software development values and principles. We constantly learn how to deliver more value and work smarter, not harder.
