Intelligent Operations | CIS FDE Technology & Operations
"We support and guardrail AI forward deployed engineering engagements across SAP industries — ensuring quality, security and lasting impact."
In this role, you belong to the Intelligent Operations pillar of T&O — the operational backbone of CIS Forward Deployed Engineering. Your job is to build the platform infrastructure that keeps deployed AI solutions running at enterprise scale.
What you’ll bring
You’ve built and operated the platforms that production systems depend on — not demo environments, but the CI/CD pipelines, observability stacks, and infrastructure automation that keep things running when it matters. You have deep expertise in cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and reliability engineering, and you’ve applied that in environments where security posture and compliance are table stakes.
You understand what it takes to operate AI-native solutions in production: the monitoring looks different, the failure modes are different, and the deployment patterns are different. Experience with agentic systems, LLM-based applications, or AI-enabled platform operations gives you a head start — but what’s non-negotiable is that you know how to build platform capabilities that scales without requiring heroics.
You can work across organizational boundaries — with operations engineers, delivery squads, engineering excellence, and external partners — and you’re comfortable setting standards that others will follow. You’ve done this before: not just built things, but built the things that other teams build on.
What you’ll build
You’re building the operational platform for Intelligent Operations. The solutions CIS deploys for industry customers need infrastructure underneath them that’s as solid as the solutions themselves. That’s your domain.
Concretely:
- Observability infrastructure: Build the monitoring, alerting, and tracing stack for deployed AI agents and applications. This isn’t classical APM — you need to capture model behavior, agent orchestration health, and business-level SLA metrics in a single pane of glass.
- Deployment and delivery pipelines: CI/CD for production AI solutions across customer/SAP-managed BAIP environments. Updates, patches, and rollbacks need to be safe, repeatable, and fast — regardless of how many customer landscapes are in play.
- Infrastructure automation: What works manually for one engagement breaks at twenty. You’ll design the automation that provisions, configures, and maintains production environments at scale — including partner-operated landscapes.
- Reliability engineering: SLI/SLO frameworks tailored to AI-native solutions. Error budgets, incident response tooling, and post-mortem processes that feed back into platform improvements.
- Security and governance tooling: Automated compliance checks, access management, data boundary enforcement — baked into the platform, not bolted on. Work with Engineering Excellence to ensure the enterprise bar holds in every production environment.
You’ll work closely with the Application Engineering team who operates the solutions day-to-day. They’re your primary customer — what you build determines how effectively they can do their job.
Where you belong
T&O’s mission: ensure quality, security, and lasting impact across AI engagements for SAP’s industry customers. The CTO Office defines how we build. T&O manages what CIS has built — ensuring every engagement is production-grade and reusable.
Within that, Intelligent Operations owns what happens after go-live. You’re the person who builds the stage that the operations team performs on. Without the platform, there’s no scalable operations — just ad-hoc firefighting.
This is a technical leadership role. You’ll mentor engineers, define platform standards, and shape the tooling strategy for a capability that’s being stood up now. You’ll work globally, across FDE squads and hubs, with external delivery partners, and with the BAIP platform teams when infrastructure questions need answers.
If you’ve spent your career making platforms that other teams depend on — and you want to define what operational platform engineering looks like for enterprise AI — this is the role.
We value the skills you bring and support you to build on them through our learning and development opportunities. These are the skills associated with this role:
Agentic AI Day-to-Day Practice, AI Adoption Capability, AI Output Quality Assurance, Context Engineering, AI-Assisted Automation and Prototyping, Learning Agility, Collaboration, Complex Problem Solving, Creative Thinking, Effective Communication, Cloud Architecture, Observability, AI Governance Operations, Agentic Orchestration, Scalability

SAP Compensation & Benefits Highlights
The following summarizes recurring compensation and benefits themes identified from responses generated by popular LLMs to common candidate questions about SAP and has not been reviewed or approved by SAP.
-
Fair & Transparent Compensation — Pay is considered competitive and fair overall, with satisfaction higher in certain roles and geographies, especially sales with strong on‑target earnings. Feedback suggests compensation is above average for a large enterprise software employer even if not at the very top of the tech market.
-
Leave & Time Off Breadth — Generous paid time off, holidays, volunteer time, and a formal sabbatical option are part of the total rewards. These offerings contribute meaningfully to overall value even when base salary alone may feel mid‑pack.
-
Healthcare Strength — Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus HSAs/FSAs and mental‑health support, form a robust core of the package. Paired with other coverages, this breadth reinforces strong total compensation value.
